Scary Blue Lips

My 13 month old son has been coughing hard at nighttime only for about 3 weeks, and yesterday his lips, feet, hands and torso were purplish blue. I took him to acute care, and they said it was acrocyanosis and to just watch him and keep him warmer. He has never had this before, has no history of anything, not even ear infections, although he had a heart murmur and pneumothorax at birth. In the middle of the night, I got up to check on him, and his breathing was very shallow and he seemed to be excessively salivating, almost "foaming at the mouth." Does anyone have any ideas? This isn't sitting well with me, and is scary to see him this way. Thanks!

  • hi my name is juanita my son is now 10 and my youngest is 3 they both had what is known as r.s.v. at a very young age this usually occurs in iinfants under 10 mo old and usually in the winter season the first signs are a cold like symptons then cough then when the respatoriy system is comprimised the SHORTNESS of breath then follows the first thing the doctors at the emergency room told me was i did the rigth thing 2 bring him in the thing they showed me to look 4 was when the baby is not breathing well to lay them on flat surface un clothed then look at ribb cage see if when the baby breaths does the skin at bottom of rib cage look like it goes under the rib cage if so see mrdical att by youe family doctor or e.r. not to worry a coupel of days on a respitory medicine of albuterol will clear this up usually if you dont get a correct diagnosis just tell the doctor to take a culture of thie babys nose and send 2 lab for analisys
