I have had a nagging pain in my lower back for about a week and just recently a new syptom of lower abdominal pain began. The pain is diffused to both right and left sides only. I went to see a doctor and had a transvaginal ultrasound done. I was told that I have an enlarged uterus (8 gestational weeks) and my right ovary is slightly larger too. The doctor diagnosed me with "possible" PID (pelvic inflammatory disease) and sent me home with antibiotics. The diagnosis of PID does not seem right becasue most cases are associated with STDs which was not a diagnosis, not to mention the doctor said "possibility of PID". I have had corpus lutem cysts in the past and am wondering if this is a more serious problem in result of the cysts. I am 32 years old and have been trying to conceive for over 5 years now with no luck. I am worried that this new problem is going to end all my dreams of becoming pregnant. What is this pain? What are my chances of conception? Any suggestions? :(

  • Unfortunately Ovarian cysts in general if large enough can cause problems with your chances of becoming pregnant. Appendicitis, ectopic pregnancy, septic abortion, hemorrhagic or ruptured ovarian cysts or tumors, twisted ovarian cyst, degeneration of a myoma, and acute enteritis must be considered. Pelvic inflammatory disease is more likely to occur when there is a history of pelvic inflammatory disease, recent sexual contact, recent onset of menses, or an IUD in place or if the partner has a sexually transmitted infectionThe above came from wikipedia. However, bacteria may also enter the body during some surgical or office procedures, such as:•Childbirth•Endometrial biopsy•Insertion of an intrauterine device (IUD)•Miscarriage•Therapeutic or elective abortionThe above came from google health.
