Hello. I posted this in ''integumentary'' but I didn't know that this was a forum.

I have a scaly patch of skin on my arm that has been growing in size for the past 4 years. It does not itch and, to me, it looks vaguely similar to if you let glue dry on your skin. I saw a doctor for it and he prescribed Lamasil. I followed that for three months with no resolution. I know this is bad, but after the Lamasil failed I figured it was a fungal infection so I tried clorox, ACV, Grapeseed, but none of that worked either. My doctor had retired so I went to my new one and told her the history about it. She said (can you believe this?) ''Nothing stands out to me, so if it itches put some hydrocortizone cream on it.'' That was it. I am so disgusted with how horrible of a doctor she is that I refuse to go back.

Anyway, I just started trying 0.5% coal tar until I can find a decent doctor.

Thought i'd take a chance in the meantime to see if anyone has ever seen this before. Thanks.

  • - It's difficult to understand something from your photo. The resolution is bad and the picture quality is bad too.- Why do you think that " it was a fungal infection"?It looks not like fungal spot.. Taking into account "a scaly patch" it seems like some kind of dermatitis or anything else. It's no wonder that antifungal cream didn't work.- Did you try any kind of strong steroid cream, for example, Mometasone furoate (Elocon) or Betamethasone dipropionate? This is a good quick test for serious dermatitis issue like eczema, psoriasis, seborea.

They are not that easy to see and are not harmful. They are caused from overexposure to the sun. Sun damage. They can be frozen off at the Dermatologist. It sounds like you're dealing with doctor's who don't want to do anything. My husband had a melanoma skin cancer and two or three doctors said it wasn't anything, just to "watch" it. The 4th said, let's get a biopsy and it was cancer. So don't take no for an answer. I couldn't see the picture, nor would an actinic keratosis stand out that well to be photographed, but it sounds like that is all it is.
