scalp pain

I had the most unusual experience last night. For no reason, my scalp became very sore on the top/front area. (Approximately a 3" square sized area) It was almost as if someone were pulling my hair or a "sunburn" type of sensation. When I examined my scalp, there was no redness, no bumps, lesions, or anything. I hadn't put any type of products on my scalp either. It's hard to adequately describe the type of pain. It just hurt! It feels better now but this has me perplexed. Any thoughts?

  • Hi I read with interest about your scalp pain. I too have this exact pain on the right side. In addition it is accoumpanied by sharp and dull pains in the forehead. What are we gonna do? My doctor thinks it's sinus. I don't really think so.

  • Well my pain only lasted for about an hour or so. I'm not sure if it's the same as yours. It felt sort of like it was in the nerve endings, not deep inside the scalp/head......does that make sense?

  • My pain has gone away and hasn't come back yet, knock on wood. As for the rest of you.....you may want to see you doctor if it keeps coming back. Don't take any chances with anything like that. Maybe get a CAT scan or MRI. You have every right to request one from your doctor. I wish you all well. Good Luck! :)

  • okay! so i talked to my moms friend (whos a doctor) and she said that its either one of two things. The scalp pain is called scalp tenderness and its a symptom of a migrane. people only have few migranes in their life so they don't know what it is while its happening but it should only last for 3 days. the other one is if anything is going on in your life right now that could be bothering you even if you cant put your finger on it or if you have depression (like me) even if your on meds for it, it can still multiply your problems so basically emotional pain can sometimes transfer into physical pain. But if it lasts for more then three days go see a doctor. I hope I helped!

  • Sharp and shooting scalp pain can be associated with the misalignment of your cervical vertabrae, causing pinched or irritated nerves. If you can find one (they're often hard to find) try seeing an atlas-orthogonal chiropractor. Particularly a gentle-touch doctor, who doesn't crack, and works to align your atlas as well as your other vertebrae(misalignment of other vertebrae usually self-corrects once your atlas is/stays in place). One way to tell if your atlas is out is by laying down on on a table, or bed, with your everything below your ankles hanging off of the end; wear hard-bottomed, shoes such as sneakers and have someone check to see if the heels of your feet are slightly uneven (one leg seeming to be longer than the other).

  • I have a similar problem on the right back side of my scalp and a few searches on Google yielded a lot of information about neurologic problems as the potential cause.
