Rushes of energy in head and tapping temples?

This is very embarrassing but sometimes, often when I've done something that makes me feel good or worthwhile, I get these rushes of... energy, euphoria, adrenaline, hyperactivity (I'm not sure the right term)... something in my head. And by instinct (almost as if I have no choice) I tap both of my temples very fast with the finger tips of either hand. Sometimes I also tap the back of my neck the same way, but with both sets of finger tips. I've been told (UNPROFESSIONALLY) in the past I may be bipolar due to severe mood swings, I'm wondering if this in any way could tie into that? Thank you.

Hi Seolas,I don't know about the feeling of euphoria, but the tapping sounds like it could be related to obsessive compulsive disorder, perhaps just the beginning of the disorder. Do you think that you have any other mannerisms that you feel "compelled" to do before and/or after certain things?Smiles, Sue

  • Hi Sue... I am pretty sure I do have OCD as something as minor as leaving the lid off a pen can keep me awake but I didn't think they would be related?I don't know if euphoria is the right word. It's like a surge of hyperactivity in my head and I put my head forward and tap the temples quickly (and other times back of my neck) almost against my own will. The feeling usually comes from a positive feeling like having done something pleasing.

Do you think that the hyperactivity could be that while you are pleased with what you did, you get kind of a rush and realize that you will tap your temples or back of your neck, even though you know you probably shouldn't do that? Kind of a "mixed messages" type of rush? I realize I'm probably not doing a great job of describing what I mean...I hope you can decipher my thought.:)Smiles, Sue
