Hello all,

I have been experiencing pain in my right side. It is at the same height as my belly button and about six inches to 8 inches right. I've had elevated liver enzymes for about 5 years. I've had every liver test imaginable and they've all come back normal. I just recently had an ultrasound and it is fine. The pain is worse in the morning when getting up and usually goes away after about 10 or 15 minutes. Any ideas?

Any ideas?Hi Steve,You say that your liver enzymes have been elevated for 5 years, what are the readings for your ALT, AST and are they changing over time or staying the same? Other things to look for which are more important with liver function are Bilirubin, Albumin, Creatinine and INR. As you know the liver does not have pain receptors but if it is enlarged for some reason then it can push the sack which has many pain receptors, or it can push other parts that can then cause pain. My liver Doc said to me that a liver has to be inflaimed to effect the LFT results. Another thing is that most people that have liver problems have a tendency to have other gasto problems so it my not be the liver that is causing the pain.Do you have a symptoms like nausia or heart burn, GURD?The Ultrasound of you liver, did it show any fatty deposits or scarring, and did you get a copy of the report from the consultant radiologist, this can be very importand.I have the same syptoms as you, and still have problems getting a firm diagnosis, but unlike you pain is not my biggest issue it is nausia and GURD. Are you seeing a liver doc or just a GI doc, if you can visits a hepotologist.I am in the UK, I am not sure if you are but there are some good livers doctors either in the midlands or London.I would be most interested in hearing how you get on and your results,Ian

  • I've had an upper endoscopy to check my bile ducts which are fine. I've had a liver biopsy which shows mild fatty change, but not enough to diagnose me with fatty liver not to mention I am in good shape. My enzymes levels over the years have swung between normal and about 2x the normal range (ALT AST Alka). I'm not sure what a hida scan is, so I can't say for sure if I've had one. I believe billirubin checked out fine as well. I have no nausea or GURD. I do have chronic constipation but have checked out fine for celiac disease and wilsons disease.
