I have constant discomfort on my right side. I cannot usually breathe through my right side and often blow out a huge scab like formation that has a very bad smell. Now my left side is starting to have problems.
Any help?

  • Restricted air passage, scab formation, bleeding and pungent odor would all suggest the presence of a sinus infection. You need to be evaluated and infection is suspected, treated with a broad-spectrum antibiotic such as Augmentin 500mg b.i.d. for seven to ten days. A culture and plain x-ray of the sinuses is sometimes preferred but not necessarily warranted unless antibiotic therapy is unsuccessful. Any tests and or treatment would naturally be your doctor's choice. Best regards, J Cottle, MD
