Hi, I was diagnosed with this illness about 3 years ago. I was put on a programe of steroids and anti cancer tablets but since then nothing.

I take morphine on a regular daily basis for the pain but is that it!!.

What is the treatment and managment of RPT

Is there any cure for this illness ??

Are there any more people out there who suffer from this? if so I would like to hear how you manage it.

Can anyone tell me what are the long term side effects to my health from taking Morphine.? other then addiction.

  • The treatment is steroids and other immunosuppressives.Had you taken methysergide before your Dx?Yes,other people get this, but it's not too common. Are your kidneys affected? As for the morphine, you can develop tolerance to it without being addicted. In fact, studies published in the Journal of theAmerican Board of Family Practice(in 2001,I believe)say that addiction rates for appropriate use of opiates in chronic pain is <1%.

  • Just bumping this thread. My uncle was diagnosed with this a moths or so ago and has been in constant agony. Has been hospitalized a number of times due to the sheer pain. Was certain he was about to die. He's been taking strong painkillers but they are absolutely no match for the condition. He is still hurting...Apparently he will start steroids soon. Will this ease the pain?thanks
