hi, i am a 53 year young female and i have been diagnosed with a rectal vaginal fistula. i was shocked to have this happen, and i don't know what caused it. i have never had problems before with digestion, however i began working a lot after becoming on my own after divorcing. i had a total hysterectomy 8 years ago.

a cat scan revealed diverticulitis, and the doctor concluded this was what caused the fistula. they want to resection my colon, and then sew the fistula shut, but i have no insurance! so, i am in misery, with feces leaking from my vagina, i am weak and very unsure of my future now. everything i consume disagrees with me, and i have lost 30 pounds. i must continue to work and it's getting really difficult with each passing day..i have heard this does require surgery.

if anyone can shed any information on this bizarre condition, i would appreciate hearing your spin.

thank you!
little birdie

  • I am sorry to read about your condition, but a rectovaginal fistula is a recognized complication of diverticulitis, and surgery is the treatment. I understand that not having insurance can be very problematic. Please consider applying for medical assistance or see a social worker, and get yourself treated. I am sorry I cannot give any better advise.
