my husband has had excessive bleeding during his BMs and also before and after. he has to run to the toilet because he can feel that he is going to bleed, then go...and then have more leaking out. he had a colonoscopy a few weeks ago, and things aren't improving. even maybe worse. his dr. said that everything looked perfect and that he did have hemorrhoids, but nothing serious and he needed to increase his fiber intake. i can assure you that his fiber intake was already high, but he started adding wheat bran.
he has also had some constipation issues. i keep nagging him to call his dr. back but he isn't which makes me even more concerned because...he is now worried.
what could this be if the dr. says that everything looks good? he has been tested already for crohns and for wheat intolerance, etc. any ideas would be very helpful.

The general rule is that bright red blood per rectum is from hemorrhoids. If his stool were black or tar colored, it could be indicative of a lower gastrointestinal bleed. I know someone who has bad hemorrhoids. He's a male in his mid 40s. He says that quite often, he fills the toilet with blood after a bowel movement. Did the doc offer him a script for something Proctofoam HC? Did he let the doctor know there was so much bleediing? The doc more than likely didn't see anything on the colonoscopy *except* for hemorrhoids and for most doctors, it is considered a normal finding because it is benign and basically a nuisance.. He could have them surgically removed. Also, who did the scope? Was it a GI doc or a general surgeon? Perhaps he needs to see a GI doc if he hasn't, to try and get his hemorrhoids under control. Good luck to both of you. Take care!Tammy
