I’m not here for ideas this time… I’m here to tell you all about my self-diagnosis… for years I have suffered with chronic fatigue and constipation. I’ve been told everything from “there’s nothing wrong” to hormonal imbalance. To possible thyroid problems. All negative… I found my cure by accident. A lot of us don’t drink water enough. I decided I needed to lose the 10+ pounds I had gained and started drinking 70-80 ounces of water and going for a walk around my 3 mile block (even though I didn’t feel like I could make it)… Strangely enough, after two weeks, I feel 10 years younger… My energy is back and my constipation is gone. Could it be that a lot of us are just dehydrated from all the caffeinated drinks that taste soooo much better than water? I think that has been my problem all along. I hope this will help someone.

  • Beth,That is great advice, and I am so glad to see you are seeing improvement:) . Often the obvious, and least expensive options, are the last ones we think about doing. Dehydration is the #1 cause of chronic pain, headaches, irritability, and so much more. I have had many patients say to me "I don't like water!" to explain why they are not drinking enough. What's to like or not like? It's water for goodness sakes!!! Do we like brushing and flossing our teeth? No, it doesn't even enter our minds, we know that if we do then our teeth will be clean and healthy. The same is true about drinking water - just do it:rolleyes: ! DOM

  • Water is a BIG part of what's wrong with many people! More folks suffer from chronic dehydration that you could imagine. One glass of water shuts down "hunger pangs" in mid night eaters. The water "conducts" so the electrical parts of you (muscle contraction, brain activity, etc) need to be bathed in water so they can "fire". Think of a car battery. When its out of water, it can't function properly. This is called a "dry cell" and in our bodies when we are "dehydrated", our cells dry up and die. Water allows the cells to communicate with one another. Electrolytes (minerals) and water are how several of the bodies functions get carried out. Here are some facts from a sheet I hand out w/ my massage clients regarding water. 75% Americans are chronically dehydrated. In 40 % of these people, the "thirst mechanism" is so weak it is ofter mistaken for hunger. Even MILD dehydration slows down metabolism by 3%! Lack of water is #1 cause of daytime fatigue! 8-10 glasses a day can significantly ease back and joint pain for 80% of sufferers. A 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, problems with basic math and difficulty focusing on a computer screen or a book. 5 glasses a day reduces risk of colon cancer by 45% and breast cancer by 79% and 50% reduction for bladder cancer!! The rule of thumb is drink half your body weight in water each day!!! Sounds like alot but remember that water regulates virtually every system in your body i.e. heart beat, brain function, digestion, etc. We MOSTLY water!! If you don't intake enough, your system will steal it out of the tissue, eyes, saliva, etc. because it absolutely has to have it!!! Drink plenty of water, eat proper nutrition and get plenty of sleep. These are the 3 things you need to stay (get) healthy. It's the only body you got. Treat it as a temple NOT a trash pit and live a good healthy, vibrant life! Keep your body strong (and hydrated) and dis-ease won't stand a chance!!!

  • 1/2 your body weight in water? Is that a misprint? That would imply that I would be drinking 33 kg of water...... I think if you are an average person it is about 2 L per day, or 8 x 250mL glasses, more if you are exercising or if it's a hot day of course.
