It started off with poision ivy, though I am not even sure if that is relevant at this point...
I got a spot of poison ivy on my left ankle and my left wrist. I treated it with ivy dry and the poison ivy went away. About 2 days after it had gone away, I went to the local clinic because my bf was having symptoms of what might be chlamydia. I was prescribed an antibiotic as a precaution. The next day a rash began to develop around the place where I had poison ivy. after a couple of days, it began to spread up my legs and get worse and the itching was unbearable. I went back to the clinic and they told me to stop taking the antibiotics just in case...but they also said they didnt think the rash was more than poison ivy. I know it is not poison ivy. It continues to spread and is not consistant with poison ivy rash (I have had poison ivy many times..i spend a lot of time out doors). Anyway, the rash on my left wrist has spread just slightly and continues to sort of wax and wane as far as the itching. The rash on my leg has spread up both legs and into my crotch almost. It is also in a patch on my stomach and behind my right ear. The itching is unbearable (mostly at night). I cannot sleep, I wake up crying and scratching. I have tried using ivy dry, caldryl lotion, oatmeal baths.....they offer little more than temporary relief. Please help with suggestions of what this could be? I am absoultely miserable and have been itching non stop for a week. This keeps getting worse. I dont know what to do.

The rash looks like lots and lots of very small pimples everywhere. no real pattern or anything..

  • Could be anything. You need to see a dermatologist. Do you think it's an STD? There are blood tests for herpes2 and syphilis (which breaks out in a rash). It could also be shingles, but that is one sided. It could have been an allergic reaction to the antibiotic. Although the herpes virus is usually from the waist to the knees, it could have gotten into your circulation via a cut, which would make it spread throughout your body, however...unlikely. You may need a shot of cortisone if it is poison ivy; that would calm it right down. See a doctor pdq. I suspect poison ivy complicated with an antibiotic allergy.
