I have been sick for about 10 months. At the time of my onset I was doing 3 different things which might attribute to my illness.

1. I was dealing in used clothing (thrift stores/salvation army) and touching clothes with God only knows what on them; reselling them to try to save my home.

2. My grandmother was in the hospital and dying of cancer. I was visiting her; being exposed to whatever could be in the hospital

3. Up north in a rural area where there was a farm/chicken coup which I walked into and began to clean (without a mask or other) and touched items, and breathed in the smell of feces/urine of every animal that could have possibly resided in this building in the 30 years it had been built. No living animals were in it at the time I entered; but several animals/rodents had made a home. there was various rat/mice droppings and other. It smelled like urine/death/decay, and in hindsight I absolutely should have worn a mask, but I was trying to clean my grandmother's estate and was upset and acting in haste; as other family members were not assisting leaving the task to me and my aunt; and it was a very large job.

The only other side note is I stayed in a home which I laid on a couch which smelled like cat urine. Cat urine from an 18 year old outdoor cat that had pee'd all over, and even on a pillow I laid on several times. I was not trying to be impolite, so I dealt with it. My grandmother had passed; it was a time for me to be disrespectful or rude.

My onset...

3 weeks after my grandmother passed, and directly after handling used clothing, and after the farm...

I developed stinging pains. The traveled around from my knuckle on my hand, to my scalp, would hit near my eye socket, and even my groin. They felt like a charlie horse, and stung. The quickly disappaited, and did not stay but a split second or two. I dismissed it; believing it was stress, or over exertion.

The second symptom I experienced in the pains reoccuring. This time they lasted a little longer, hit my legs, the scalp, near my eye socket again, hands, and in my backside. They lasted a little longer; but again.. dissapaited.

I then woke up one day (about 1 - 2 weeks later) with a stiff neck, like someone was CHOKING me. It was very taunt, tight.. and caused me much grief. I then got tinnitus. - it has alliviated only on a few occasions; but is pretty much with me 24/7.

I went to see a doctor, and he told me he believed I had a esutation tube dysfunction, and treated me with an inhailable steroid and amoxicillian.

The amoxicillain didn't take it away; but it did not seem to get worse.. it was no change.

After the amoxicillian, it started to progress. I know had a few bouts of vertigo, pain in the back of my head near the occipital lobe, pain in my ear, TMJ like sensation, and knots in my muscle in my abdomen area, arms, and they are lateral.. meaning if I have it on one arm, I have it on the other.

It seems like after the antibiotics, I got worse, when I wasn't taking them.

I started to have muscle twitches/jerks, sleeping issues, and RLS/tingling numbness in my legs mainly, and some in my arms on occasions.

I also have weird heart flutters/palpatations on occasion.

Everytime I discuss my issues with doctors, the first thing they do is default to my grandmother's death, and say I'm "depressed" or have "anxiety".

It is very frustrating as I was healthy before and never was sick more than two days, and now I've been ill fighting whatever this is for 2 months.

To date I have been tested for (and tested negative for)

ANA panel - negative
Scleroderma - negative
Lymphoma - negative
Blood counts - all good, high side of normal on white blood cell with no abnormalities; which they say is "stress"
T3/T4 - normal
ASE (something like this) - normal
C3/C4 - normal
MRI of my brain and auditory - high contrast - normal
MRI of my neck - normal
Ultrasound of thyroid - abnormal - 2 very small nodules; two small to byopsy
Autoimmune diseases of the thyroid - negative
Heavy Metals/Urine/Ketonins - all normal - even did a 24 hour pee in a jug collection of urine - NORMAL
disconnective tissue disorder - negative
Sjourens (something like that) - negative
and various other blood tests; 27 in all
EEG - normal
ENG - Normal
Auditory test/hearing/hearing with the clicking - Normal

I am getting another T3/T4 done this week; and an A1C as many in my family have type 2 diabetes MANY.. and a cymotgoublin (somthing like this) test. I am also scheduled for an EMG.

When I mention to them that I inhaled all that stuff in the chicken coup I am told that is fine, and that is not why I am sick.

My dog has also been ill, and was everywhere that I had went. she keeps testing positive for a bacterial infection (not identified) 3 times in 10 months, it has lead to pancreatitus, and now my dog is on insulin 2 times a day. It is not from table scraps, or a poor diet.. I feed my dog IAMS food, and she has pet insurance. She is a retriver mix and weighs 61 lbs, and is not overweight for her size. Pancreatitus can be caused also by a bacterial infection...

I wonder sometimes the correlation between her illness and mine. I have mentioned this also, and it is always dismissed.. it is upsetting to me. I have had a lyme titre but it was negative. I do remember having a few bites on my leg during this time... they hurt more than itched.

My current DX is GAD (generalized anxiety disorders) and good ole' Fibromylagia.. which is very upsetting to me..

I'm wondering if there is anything else.. lately I've had more ticks/jerks/spasms, and weird heart flutters.. not like with anxiety attacks/panic attacks.. this feels like someone is reaching in my chest and squeezing my heart for a few seconds..

My blood pressure is good.. my pulse does come back high on occasions, but I also have white coat syndrome since I have got sick, as I feel they are going to tell me horrible news or give me a test which will hurt very badly.

I'm very scared. I am a 34 yr old, non-smoking, non drug using, no kids/pregnancies, white female. I do not drink. My diet is poor at present, and I am overweight by at least 50 lbs I would say.. I suddenly gained allot of weight, I did have poor eating habits.. but it seemed to come on out of no where. Everytime my thyroid seems to come back normal....

I am looking for any input anyone could have as to what could be wrong with me. I want to get well, and reclaim my life. This situation has had me stuck, and feeling helpless, waiting to find out what will be my next symptom.. and next for the dog. I am not aware of anything being in my home that could be a problem. My younger brother lived here for 4 years; and does not have any health problems. Sometimes I also sense a tightness in my chest or but no coughing, or other..

Thank you for your help.

In Reiter's syndrome.. would you have inflammation that shows up? Cause I don't have any... I read a description of this disease and some sounds similar but I don't have any sores that are not healing, and no noted swelling of arms/feet. I have more of a numbness/tingling, nerve pain.. not a sore muscle thing.

My MRI is clean, 2 scans.. high contrast.. Pain changes in intensity.. some days a little lighter, and other days.. very extreme. Sometimes I swear I feel better when I don't eat.. than when I do.. not really having any abdominal pain however.. I do sometimes get dry eye, dry mouth.. but it is not constant. I also get ear popping.. Just searching for awnsers/clues..Thank you for your insight! All those that comment, and all those that read this.

  • My moms friend who had very similar symtoms ended up being diagnosed with lyme disease at a special lab somewhere in california. after being tested for everything under the sun (even lyme disease and it all came back negative) He went about 5 years before it was confirmed as lyme disease and was told it must be psych related because his drs couldnt find anything wrong with him. He never got the typical bullseye rash but is getting his life back together now. although he doent do well in humid areas for some reason. hope this helps and i hope you feel better with whatever is causing your symptoms.

  • AthenaI feel very sorry for you. It must be reassuring that the doctors have not found anything seriously wrong on the scans and blood results whilst frustrating that your symptoms continue.I think it is sensible that you and your doctor continue to search for a serious underlying problem whilst your symptoms persist.Although expensive chiropractors can be very useful for back and neck pains. Many of the shooting pains in your body could be related to muscle tension. Have you tried one? My best advice is tough to follow. If you are serious about getting better. Lose your extra weight by improving this poor diet you comment on and swim three times a week for at least 30minutes. Try this for a month or two and your symptoms may well improve. It beats getting angry with your doctors and will occupy you whilst you wait for more blood results.

Not all ticks test positive to the lyme test. There are quite a few different bacteria to check for like bartonella and babesia and rocky mountain and others. The tick bacteria attacks the immune system and represents itself differently in everyone.I keep thinking a lyme disease thing too.. I'm really not sure.. it's such a mess. I'm going on almost 1 year and not any better. I'm really getting worried. My dog does have some kind of reoccuring bacterial infection that is just NOT going away. We are on round 6 or 7 of antibiotics.. for bowel inflammation/pancreatitus. I just really worry about this whole thing. My doctors keep pushing back on depression and anxiety.. and I am going to tell you guys like this.... Now.. I'm no expert.. by far right?.. but... I've had panic attacks and panic syndrome from a sexual assault 6 years ago (not raped.. but attempted.. I got away).. so I am ALL TOO familiar with panic.. and what it can do. NONE of what I am feeling.. these "pins and needles" feelings are ANYTHING like what I get when I get anxiety.. that is more of a flushing feeling, and a "butterfly" feeling.. this is more like a drop of water is running down my legs, and at times it feels like I am sunburned.. I have researched all sorts of things relating to anxiety and depression and cannot find 1 ACCOUNT, not 1 on the www. where upon someone had tinnitus due to depression or anxiety.. it is only with certain diseases/issues that this is caused. The only thing that comes back with an issue is my thyroid.. but it tests like it is functioning properly.. could it be not function properly even though my t3/t4 comes back normal?? The ear ringing I have is not like someone slaps your ear and it rings.. it is more of a constant high pitched cricket constant thing.. I cannot hardly explain it.. but it is very hard to deal with.I fear I will not get a handle on this and lose my home.. I just am at a lose of what to do.I laid here tonight thinking they will never figure this out; until it consumes me whole.I am taking there cymbalta, and I've tried lyricas and things.. and they "help".. but they are NOT taking away the ringing or effecting it. Cymbalta just makes me cry less over this.. and lyrica helps with some of the neuropathy thing.. IDK.. I'm just so very worried and so very scared.. =(

  • Hi Athena... I got your post and read your symptoms I must admit our are similar but something struck me when you mentioned your dog being sick to have you looks around your house for any black mold or umm I don't know what other mold is out there? But I have heard of stories where whole families have been sick with various things but its actually caused by mold in the walls or under sinks etc I would maybe do a very throughal (errm spelling) of your home I'll keep you updated and please keep me updated to :) Get better soon! I think it only goes like one round, because if you don't test positve; they don't do the other tests.. I am honestly not sure. I do have the kit from ignex and am thinking about getting it done but the expense $$ is allot. Did you have this test? Or did you have the regulard CDC test? And I agree with you; Fibro my butt. Just like the others who are told they have Lyme and Fibro; doubtful.. I think it is ALL LYME for those people who have LYME; just represents itself similar to Fibro. I'm not saying all cases of Fibro or Lyme; I'm saying those with Lyme; may not truly have Fibro; it's just their lyme and how it represents itself. IDK; that is my theory; and I am not a doctor, nor a Lyme expert; but I do belong to the Michigan Lyme Association, and the Lyme group at MDjunction.com and actively participate and learn from other "lymies!" as I am concerned this might truly be my problem! My information was a little inaccurate above when I pulled my pets medical records per a request of her pet insurance; as she has had changes in vets. My dog has tested positive for a bacterial infection not 1, not 2, not 3, but about 6 times in the last 10 months! 6 times; and I believe that bacterial infection causes an inflammation of her pancreas. I think the ingestion of a fatty pet treat; is what PUSHED her over the edge into not properly processing/producing insulin; as the pancreas works two fold.. digestive and endocrin. It was already suffering inflammation, and just CRASHED trying to keep up with the digestive of that fatty treat; and it caused lipase in her blood. This then caused her endocrin system to CRASH; and I hope it is only temp; and she can get off insulin. She is on a small dose. 5.5 units, 2 x s a day, at 61 lbs. Dogs are on up to 14 units two times a day at her weight. That is why the vet feels she may not be a true diabetic; but still fighting off the inflammation.I just wonder.. why it is NOT going away; or WHAT is reinfecting her? Is it me? Or is she sick infecting me? Or did we both get exposed to something; in this house, biting insect or other. It just really burns my butt. I had an inspector before I purchased my home check for mold; but.. nothing since (6 years ago). I have an enviornmental doctor that I can go see; and I think I am going to go. I think he looks at exposures, verses just infectious diseases. He will look at what is in my environment, and what is in the enviornment up north and in that chicken coup; and run some tests.I will keep you up dated! On a side note of new symptoms...I recently went to the doctor, and described a pain I had (chest pain, and how I could not lay on my back, and was sweating.. and it would come and go, and went away.. made my chest tight).. It is all left shoulder blade, left chest orientated. He gave me an EKG, and chest X-ray; NOTHING.. He is sending me for an Echo cardiogram on the 18th, and full ultrasound of my abdominal area, liver, pancreas, down to pretty much pelvic. He wants to see how that is all doing, based on pains I have been having. I will let you know the results of this, and update my post to include for these symptoms. Thank you all for your care and responses. I do appreciate your input and thoughts to my mystery illness =)

  • They gave me a CDC lyme titre; that is all I know. My sister had alot of similar complaints. She was told for years and years that everything was normal. Finally she was diagnosed with Hashimotos. I also went approximately 12 years trying to get a diagnosis for my symptoms and was finally diagnosed with Graves disease (also affects the thyroid). Its a shame that it takes so long. Good luck.

I get to see her soon and I am going to have her check more in depth.. as well as check my parathyroid, and other things within her area of expertise.Thank you for the information =)

  • If it was not getting worse on amox, it may indeed be some sort of bacterial infection like Lyme's. Most of the time when Lyme's is that advanced it calls for 8 weeks of high dose amox and doxy treatment.
