:( My husband has had a purple patch of skin appear on his lower back, right in the small of his back over his spine. It does not itch or hurt. It is about 4 inches long in an arrow shape pointing up. It looks like a fresh bruise, but is not changing in color ... maybe fading a little but not like a bruise would. I am very concerned, as all I have found on purple rash is meningitis related illnesses, but all of the pictures I have seen of those rashes are little spots all over, and his is one big patch of skin that is purple. I think it is strange that it goes right up his spine, like that. He went to the doctor, they said it looks like a bruise. They measured it and told him to come back on tuesday. No blood test  , just measured it. He was really ill a few days before I noticed it on his back. seemed like food poisoning or a 24 hour flu. He has had some fatigue, before and since, as well. Has anyone heard of anything simular?

  • I found this post as I Googled this morning for answers. I have pretty much exactly the same thing, did you ever get any responses or diagnoses? It's a most curious, 2 arrow-shaped rashes on both sides of my spine on my lower back. It doesn't hurt, and looks like a purplish-bluish bruise or a big hickey. It may be related to the exercise bicycle I just started using yesterday now that I can't bike outside, which I do more or less daily when our MN winter doesn't keep me off the trails. Could it be #2 diabetes? I'm 5'11" and weigh 220, so I'm somewhat overweight (and fond of sweets, in moderation), but pretty active. Could it be related to the hours I spend sitting in a chair at my computer on most days? Any ideas or links welcome!
