I was wondering if anyone had this symptom. I have a beating or pulsating feeling in the center of my body. I have had it three months and have had alot of test and the doctors do not know what it is. I am 51 female, overweight and moderate high blood pressure. The pulsating feeling sometimes is worse at night and sometimes I don't feel it at all. I have had ekg's, wore a heart holtster, colonoscopy, endoscopy, utrasound of the abdomen and chest, and cat scan. I have reflux and a slight hiatial hernia. The rest of the test show nothing wrong. I do have alot of pain in my esophagus from reflux. Has anyone had this pulsating feeling and been diagnosed with anything?

Has anyone had this pulsating feeling and been diagnosed with anything?wow I am in away glad to read your post because I have been having the same exact symptoms. At night I sometimes have this aweful feeling of pulsations on my spine and when it gets worse it spreads throughout my body. I am going to see a physician soon and hopefully he can provide me with some answers but if u have anything u can recommend or inform me about please please do so. I am very scared that there is something wrong with my heart and I'm only 24. I did noticehowever that it usually happens when I eat late especially foods high in salt. Anyways I hope ur feeling better and let me know of the dr figured out a diagnosis

  • I went to several doctors including a cardiologist but all said I had no heart problems. I had been taking prilosec and stop taking that and took kapidex which was stronger for my reflux problem. Evidentially the pulsating feeling went away but has come back since I am no longer taking the kapidex and back on the prilosec. All the doctors I went to were baffled and could not figure out what my problems was, none of them could, I went to a cardiologist, neurologist, internist, gynecologist, and gastrologist, none of them could figure it out. I personally think it has to do with my esophagus, when it is more irritated, I have that problem. Did you find out what your problem was?

  • I saw a doctor today who gave me hope of finding the cause. She suspects something that is affecting proper nerve firing (since my pulsating has an electrical "buzz" to it)--possible electrolyte imbalance, calcium imbalance, or parathyroid problem. Blood tests tomorrow. Will post findings.

  • I had same symptoms, same tests which showed nothing. Then I had a simple barium swallow test which showed a large diverticulum of the esophagus which was giving me spasms in my midsection. At times it felt like a heart attack, a lot of difficulty swallowing, regurgitation, reflux. Had recent surgery and swallowing has improved, but I still have some spasms and pain in my throat which can travel upward into my neck and jaw, across my shoulders like a heart attack. I take Magic Mouthwash with lidocaine, the latter being a numbing agent and the spasms stop. Look up esophageal diverticulum. Some people take sucralfate which coasts stomach and esophagus, also nitro glycerin which dialates the esophagus. I take propanolol also, once a day. I was wondering if anyone had this symptom. • I have the same pulsating feeling. It is common amongst pwople with GERD. I'm surprised your GI doctor didn't educate you about that. Your brain is firing signals in response to the caustic acid traveling up your esophagus. To me, ot feels like throbbing/pulsating in the middle of my chest. Like me, you notice this more at night when lying down because the acid doesn't have to fight gravity to go up. I also notice it right after eating. I thought it was palpitations for a long time, but my GI doctor assures me that it is a natural response to the reflux. I find Zantac (H2 receptor blocker) works better than prilosec (PPI). My GI doctor recommends pepto bismol, as it is soothing to the irritated tissues. Hope this helps you feel less anxious. 20 minutes of cardiovascular exercise every day will ease your symptoms. I also quit coffee and it really made a difference (it was hard, but worth it.) Best ofor luck and health to you!
