Back in mid July I had horrible perenial pain (between my legs) and went to the doctor. He did a prostate exam and a urine test and determined I had prostatits. He then put me on Levaquin for ten days. After the treatment I felt much better, I went back to the doc and he said it was fine now. But about two weeks later I had the urge to urinate very frequently, about 2 times an hour. I started taking my girlfriends levaquin and made another appointment with a different docotor. He took urine and there was no infection this time, he wrote a script for levaquin for an additional 30 days and said it was due to the prostatits not being completely gone. So at the end of the thirty days I was still urinating frequently. this time I went to a urologist. he took urine, and blood, both were fine. he did a prostate exam and said it felt a little soft and he also did an ultrasound and said my bladder was retaining a normal amount of urine. he wrote me a script for Bactrim and told me to take 3 advil a day. Well I am on the 6th day of treatment and am still absolutely no better. Any one ever experience this? How long should I expect the urination to continue? could it be something the docs missed? please help I am absoljutely miserable

  • I don't understand this whole problem. If it is so common why isn't there a specific med that works? I don't know about you, but I have been taking Levaquin for 7 weeks and now Bactrim for 2..... And I am still suffering. Any suggestions?????????

  • In My Case A Uro Told Me That The Main Reason I Go Into Retention Is Because I Cant Relax My Muscle In My Pelvic Region, The One That Releases When I Need 2 Urinate. I Was Given A Medication Called Flomax. That Is Not True Though, It Cant Be. If It Was That I Cant Relax My Muscle, I Would Have Gone Thru This Problem Last Year, The Year Before, Etc. I Was Never Like This Be4,why All Of A Sudden 2?I Saw Doctorz/ 2 Uros. They First Diagnosed Me With Prostatitis, Bph- Enlarged Prostate And Now Saying I Cant Relax My Pelvic Muscle. I Also Took A Whole Lot Of Antibiotic, Too. For Example, I Took 10 Levaquin (500 Mg) The First Time, Then Another 10 Levaquins For Another Ten Dayz. I Took Another Antibiotic Called Smz/tmz(500) For A Month. After That I Took Another Type Of Antibiotic Called Cipro(500mg) 2 Times A Day 4 A Month. How Old R You Man? Im 25 And Thatz Hella Young 2 Be Going Thru What Im Going Thru. I Was Curious, What Type Of Problem Do You Exactly Have With Urinating? Also When They Did The Ultrasound On You, How Much Were U Retaining? Do You Urinate Alot Each Time U Piss. My Main Problem Is Frequency, takes Some Time Be4 Urine Can Pass, Unable 2 Completely Empty My Bladder, And Retention. It Is So Frustrating. Holla Back.

I have another appointment tomorrow becasue I can't stand this. Hopefully something will change. Good luck and keep me posted with your progress, I'll do the same

  • Gemini,Just to keep you posted....I called the uro that diagnosed me (for the third time with prostatitis) and told him i was still urinating like twice an hour or more and told him I wanted to come in again. He told me that he thinks we are overtreating the prostatitis with antibiotics, the urine sample he took came back negative for bacteria, that my prostate was only slightly soft and not inflamed anymore, and that during my ultrasound I was retaining a normal amount of urine. So then he says he thinks the urinating is all in my head, because i told him that i can sleep through the night without going and some days it is gone completely. So he prescribed me Urispas and said to take that "until I get my confidence back" and see what happens. I couldn't believe it!! But I am going to see, the only thing that stresses me out is this ***n problem. So I took one this morning and will see what happens. Are you able to sleep through the night without going? Also do you have some days that are much better than others, or are your symptoms always bad?? Thanks

  • Wsup Dude. Nah, I Dont Be Sleeping Through The Night. I Wake Up At Least 4 To 5 Times To Urinate, At Times If Im Lucky I Will Go About 3times. Its Been So Long Living With This Condition I Dont Even Remember The Last Time I Had A Goodnights Sleep. I Know What You Mean, By Having Much Better Days Than Others. I Have Those Days Too, Sometimes. As 4myself My Condition Right Now Is Like 60/40. 60-bad & 40 Good. How Much Urine(ml) Remained In Your Bladder After The Ultrasound? What Does That Medication Urispas Treat? Let Me Know How It Works 2? Alrite Take It Eazy.

  • Apparently Urispas is some type of bladder relaxer. I really dont notice too much of a change taking it though, doesn't do much. Sorry but I dont' remember how much urine remaind, but next time I talk to the uro i will ask (I am sure that will be pretty soon. unfortunately). Man, this sh** sucks, I was absolutely fine like 4 months ago, now my life is consumed thinking about ******g. Like you said before we are young guys....I thought this didn't happen until we were in our 60's. Imagine what fun that is going to be!!!! I am going to give it another week or so and see if I dont' start getting better with the Urispas and the Bactrim. If I am still bad I am going to see a different Uro. What else can I do? Later.

  • Wish I had some good news for you .lt has been about 6 months since the bactrim, i have taken clindamycin and flagyl since then and have had no improvement, the uro says it is a sefl-fullfilling prophecy" that i htink about ******g then i piss, I completely disagree. i have been so depressed that i actually started seeing a psychologist to help. i also have been taking a probiotic called threelac , if you read about yeast overgrowth a lot of the symptoms that we are showing are listed there. so i thought i would give it a try. all i can say is i haven't been on antibiotics for about 3 months now. i have not gotten any worse. i pee probably every 1-2 hours all the time. the threelac has not made much of a differnce but since i canm't seem to find anyone or anything else to help i am going to continue to try it. currently i am taking avodart and uroxatrol, one apparently shrinks the prostate the other relaxes bladder muscles, however neither seem to make a difference. good luck and please reply to this periodically to let me know what's going on. we have to stay in this together, it helps to know there are other people out ther going through the same misery as myself.

  • Hi Gemini and all, 1st let me say, I am so sorry you are going through this. I have lots of urinary problems, too, a box full of kidney stones....BUT: I am a GIRL! Hope you don't mind my invading this guy thread! I was wondering, do you have any other symptoms? Even if seemingly unrelated? Perhaps if there is another common symptom, it will reveal something. Even if silly, like headaches or bleeding gums. What tests have you had run and what were the values of the abnormal tests? I'm wondering a few things.....have you had a brain MRI (might as well look inside your head if the docs actually think it IS all in your head, right?:)? I'm even wondering if you might have similar professions or similar exposures... I believe there are "hot spots" in the country for kidney stones, etc. Sincerely,Val

  • I know women's bladders can prolapse (drop) causing a kink in the plumbing (ureters) and then we have problems with urine retention in the bladder. Women have been doing Kegel exercises to tone up the perineal muscles. Would it help guys?

  • Hi All,I am a 39 yo male. I get prostititis every 9-12 months, been that way for about 5-6 years. The process is go to the urologist, urine sample, prostate exam, get prescritpion for levaquin for 20-30 days depending on the severity of the infection. My urologist says you need a minimum of 20 days on the levaquin to clear it up. The issue is that your urethra, bladder, and sometimes your penis get irritated and it takes weeks for the sensations to clear up. The sensation to pee is real when you have the infection, I do have to say that you get so used to it that its is on your mind for long periods of time and I have personally found that I can actually wait to pee most of the time once the infection has cleared up. When you really have to go, you'll know it. Its like your mind becomes over sensative to the "I have to pee" feeling and over reacts. Also you are usually advised to drink more water while youre dealing with the infection so yes, you do have to pee more than normal, its easy to overlook that fact because you get used to drinking a lot of waterThe first time and also this last time I also ended up with epididymitis, the infection spread to the epididimyis which is part of your testicle. Agonizing pain, would literally drop me to my knees from time to time. This time, I also had some minor blood in my urine which is a first. I finish up the levaquin next week. I am also starting to get some skin issues which is the result of being on the levaquin for long periods of time, frequently. Sitting for long periods of time, not drinking enough water, and weak pelvis muscles can aggravate the issue. There is a muscle that runs along your perenium that also goes by your prostate that can cause irritation and result in infection. Doing exercises for it arent a bad idea either... try and squeeze the area between your sack and your anus, that works it out. They really dont have any good advice nor can they attribuite it to any one thing. Check out www.prostatitis.com for more info.

  • i am 25 and last october i woke up one day with servere pain behind my penis like dead sore! so painful i could not get an erection and it was hard urinate??? when i managed to get an erection with my girlfriend it was horrible when i ejeculated it was dead tight and sore! i had no idea what this pain was. the previous month i had a back problem which i had physio on and he did i manapulation on me which involded the pelvis at the front???? could that have lead to this problem? anyways the pain went away after 2weeks of anti inflammatories and rest which meant my erections came back etc. but i went back to exercising and the pain came back again, this time its been here to stay for 5months of horrific pain in my pelvic area, i have constant pain when sitting down in my perinium behind my testicles, sexual problems loss of libido, etc i have had ultra sound of my testes no problem, urine test no problem, prostate test 3times no problem, mri scan of my pelvis no problem! ive now been in constant pain around the genitals for 5months, sometimes at night i have what i call an 'attack' of horrific pain above my penis so painful i contenplate suicide no joke, it has also come to my attention that my lower back is bad to sometimes the pain in my lower back right is horrific spreading through my **s into my right front side pelvis. Its constant pain all day everyday i am awaiting results of an MRI SCAN of my lower back, could i have nerves running through to my front pelvis area causing this horrific pain around my genital area or have i got this prostatisits? What started out as a back problem i then had manupulation of my back and the front of my pelvis has turned into this HORRIFIC NIGHTMARE 5MONTHS and still no diagnoses i dont smoke, i dont drink much and i was a boxer up until the pain at the front started im 25years old and utterley deprresed PLZ HELP ME GET RID OF THE CONSTANT PAIN

  • I went to the er two weeks ago thinking i was passing a kindey stone, they did an ct scan and couldnt see any stones so they referred me to an urologist. the nxt day i go see him and he diagnoses me with prostatitiis. he did say htat it was swollen to the size of a baseball and full of infection, yet when i left his office, he gave me scripts for flomax and toradol. Alot of help he was. i ended up going to my pcp and she checked it again saying the same thing. prostatitis. she looked at me and asked arent you hurting? i answered as bad as anyone could be. she wrote a script for anti biotics septra ds, due to the infection, lortabs and percocet for the pain. Im still having problems urinating and hurting like someone has taken a sledghammer to my lower abdomen. Changing urologists tomorrow. going to see what hope they can give me.

  • I am 23 and currently going through what the uro Called chronic non bacterial prostatitis. All I can say is miserable. No infections, no kidney stones present, had a CT scan, blood test, and nothing.. ultrasound showed an empty bladder but that must have been due to the prostate massage. Urine is traveling very slowly through the blade and urinary tract. Also have back/kidney pain and prostate spasms. Uro found no clues as to why.

  • I have a lot of sympathy for you - I know what you are going through. I had the same condition for several years. I tried all the medications etc. Nothing worked until a great doctor suggested it was stress related. He put me on a very low dose of antidepressant, to act as a relaxant, and sent me for talking therapy / counselling. I also started meditation daily and I do a relaxation mental exercise. 2 weeks after starting the anti- depressant and therapy the pain was much reduced. After 6 months I came off the pills and now I just do the daily relaxation and meditation.
If I forget the meditation for a while, the pain comes back - so it is definitely related to the stress. I don't consider myself a stressful person but this can all be subconscious.
Anyway - this works for me and has been a real breakthrough. I hope it may be of use for others
