I am 31 weeks pregnant and about 6 weeks ago I started having episodes where I would all of a sudden get really hot, then dizzy and then I would lose my vision and have cold sweats on my forehead and back of my neck. I was almost always sitting but twice have been laying down. The third time it happened I was taken by ambulance to the hospital. They checked for dehydration, gestational diabetes, protein in the urine, preeclymsia, iron deficiency and everything else they could think of. I was then referred to internal medicine who diagnosed me with hypoglycemia and had me eat every 2 hours and check my blood sugar 6 times a day. The episodes have continued and my blood sugar has crashed from 94 to 26 in less than 30 minutes. They had me do an MRI and it came back that there is a problem with my pituitary (either bleeding or an irregular growth but they can't be sure b/c they didn't use contrast). I was referred to the neurologist but he said that he doesn't think these episodes are caused by a pituitary problem and doesn't want to see me until after my pregnancy. Anyone have any ideas of what else it could be?

** Forgot to ad that the episodes are lasting longer and the last time I actually lost consciousness.

  • Found this after digging awhile, hope this alleviates some anxiety. "Pregnancy neither initiates formation of pituitary adenomas nor accelerates their growth". From an article by the Mayo Clinic. But what does your obstetrician think? Also wear a medic-alert bracelet for when your blood sugar drops. I might see another neurologist though.
