I recently developed headaches and a swelling and soreness of the bone behind the right ear. I ewnt to my GP who diagnosed an ear infection, the thing is i have been on antibiotics for 3 days and instead of getting better the headaches are getting worse and the sweeling on the bone is now nearly the size of a golf ball. I read on the internet about mastoiditis.

Have i been misdiagnosed?

  • I've never heard of an ear infection behind the ear. I'd recommend getting it biopsied (if solid) or drained (if liquid filled) and tested.

If centered in the back of the head area and if they are not typical migraine symptoms, it could be that there is a nerve behind the ear that is severely inflamed, creating swelling and headache symptoms known as occipital neuralgia.
