Tested positive for lyme, got retested again, it was negative, got retested again, negative. Just how many more test do i have to do to get a correct diagnosis? The reason i got restested after a positive was because i had no symtons of lyme what so ever, i did this during my regular check up. Should i get a test again? what would cause a positive in the first place if i don't have the thing. thanks
Raquel

  • What type of test did you have ? IME the hospital tests are worthless. Where do you live ? And what do you feel are Lyme symptoms ?

  • i live in NJ, and i had blood test. I dont have any lyme symtoms that's the whole thing, on my regular yearly check up, my doctor did a complete hormonal panel work, and he suggested i include a lyme test because at the time i was feeling tired all the time. Lyme came back positive, then negative at the second re-test, and negative again at another re-test. all were blood work at a Lab.

  • Most people have the opposite problem when trying to get a lyme dx, esp in NJ. This state has become Lyme central with many undx'd cases! Took me forever to get dx'd. Do a search, there are many cases here. How far apart were your re-tests?? You mentioned the first one was a yearly check up. What was the name of the tests you had?? The Western Blot test is the best one, the others have many false negs. I have heard that Quest labs aren't very good. Do you remember if you were sick, had an infection, and given antibiotics abt the time the first test was done?? You may have had Lyme and it was caught early enough the antibiotics may have prevented it from getting any further. You would have had to have had some of the markes for the test to have been positive, unless it was read wrong. Request a Western Blot test and see what the results are and then maybe you can put it out of your mind. Best wishes.
