Early last week I thought I had the flu but by last weekend (really bad wet cough, stuffy nose and body ache/weakness) I was in really bad shape and my Dr. was away so I went to the Emergency Room. They took an EKG, Blood test (finger ****k only) listened to my breathing/chest and my blood pressure. The Dr. said she thinks it's Pneumonia so she gave me a medicine called Doxycyclin (I'd never heard of it before)...
Anyways...I have been on the medicine for 4 days now and with no improvement :(
The side-effects from this medication worries me as I am NEVER hungry and it's quite hard to look at TV (due to light sensitivity) and feeling like I'm gonna vomit.

So my questions are...Should I go back to the Dr./hosp and tell them the medication is not working or should I wait?
Has anyone ever taken this medication before and if so what experiences have you had?

Kind regards,
Bethany

  • If you have pneumonia, the doctor should have told you to see your family doctor later in the week. You should not go to the emergency room at this time with the flu...you can become more sick. Make an appointment with your doctor or go to urgent care for treatment. You probably need stronger antibiotics...that one is pretty mild...

I have to say it DID help. From the blood test...my infection went from a 12 (when i first went begining fo the week) and now it's down to 8 which means the infection is slowly making it's way out. The dr. said to continue the medicine I am taking (the Dox) + he gave me something called Prednisolone as well as an inhaler medicine called Bricanyl. It seems to be helping and last night was the first half decent night of sleep i've had in over a week so i just hope I can continue to get better!
