  • Nadia, if your mother is contemplating suicide then you need to deal with THAT now and put the mystery illness on hold. Nothing is more important than her life. If she is totally dissatisfied with her doctors- get new ones. Get second opinions. Don't let any one person be the "end" of a diagnosis pursuit because they may be flat out wrong. You mention she has hypertension- is this being treated? High blood pressure can cause the symptoms she is experiencing if enough damage has been done to the body. What medicine is she on for a tranqualizer? Has there been any investigation into her being allergic to it? Have you looked into Sciatica? Was she ever in any kind of accident or bad fall, even as a child? Has arthritis been ruled out? What about Lyme Disease?

  • Has she tried lyrica? It is a derivitive of neurontin that works well for me. It sounds like nerve pain and that is what lyrica addresses. It is VERY expensive so be prepared. Also, let her know that just because the tests say she is OK doesn't mean there is nothing wrong. She should seek counseling for the suicidal thoughts and a pain management doc for the pain--they are much more knowlegeable than a regular doc about pain and if they don't know the cause they may at least have a way to control it. And for you--please seek counseling yourself. You are not responsible for your mother's life. It is OK to be scared and to try to help, but you need to learn to separate the blame. You are the child, not the mother. Give her a lot of love and support and give some to yourself too. It is really easy to get wrapped up in her pain and you can actually unintentionally add to the problem if you aren't carefull. Take care and good luck
