Over 7yrs ago I was coughing up blood and I went to the hospital but never went back to get my mucus tested. and Now for a few years I have been coughing up black stuff in my mucus. Recently I was sick with a bad cough and I coughed up a lot of blood and a quarter size blood clot. What might this be. I don't work or have any medical insurance. Please help. thanks

  • You should check with your local department of health, or similar orginization.. usually they can give you a list of low cost, and in most areas even free clinics to have that checked out. I can't really speculate what that could be, but if you haven't been to a doctor.. I definitely would in your case. Also, if you think it's bad enough, emergency rooms will treat you to an extent insured or not at no cost. It'll just tank your credit, but I'd rather have bad credit and live than the alternative.

  • Tell a hospital about it, and that you are afraid it might be Tuberculosis which is infectious. Also that you have no money. They will probably give you a very pro examination, paid for by the State. (If they don't then your State is crazy.) That way you might learn what you have going on. If it is TB, make sure you complete the antibiotics, otherwise it becomes resistant and then you will have no further chance - plus you will then infect others with that stronger TB.
