For the last year I have been experiencing a strange combination of symptoms. When I lift an object more than 13 or so pounds I get an overwhelming tingling sensation at the bottom of my vaginal area and it quickly spreads down both legs. I’m not quite sure but I think it stops right below my knees. My legs get very numb and weak and I have to stop walking but don’t have enough strength to sit myself down. It is equal in both legs and ALWAYS starts right between my legs. It started a year ago when I was pregnant so I assumed it was pregnancy related. Now my son is 11months old and weighs 21 lbs. It has gotten much worse. When I lift him out of the car seat it happens and I have to just stop until it is over. It lasts about 45-60 seconds. I saw a resident doctor and she stated that because it is both legs and I don’t have any back pain they are going to refer me to Neurology. I’m very nervous and confused. Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this?

  • Dear friend,I am aged 57, a male living with my family and married for 27 years. I think I can give suggestions. This is due to your uterus I believe and I suggest you take dry dates and dry grapes of 20 Gms each per day. By the by how is your eye sight, do you have head aches often? what pill you take which may have side effects. Whether you get spinning head? Vomiting sensation when you lift the baby?If I tell the natural way of remedy for your pain will you follow?

  • Arlene,Perhaps something is pressing on a nerve. It could be as simple as needing to have your lower back adjusted. The neurologist will examine you gently with a tiny hammer and dull point to rule out neurological disease. If it appears to be some type of nerve compression, you may be given stretching exercises or referred to another specialist for an imaging study of your lower spine or pelvic area.Meanwhile, try to relax and prepare for your appointment. Think of how you can describe the pain. Does it radiate from inside? Does it affect your buttocks as well as your legs? Do you feel it when you sit down? Were you ever in a car accident? These are questions you might be asked. I hope you find the answer and an easy solution.

  • Thank you so much for responding... I am not currently on the pill. I have a history of chronic migraines but they were non-existent during my pregnancy and now I get them alot less often than before my pregnancy. I do not get the urge to vommit after lifting him it's just the tingling and numbing sensation from my hips down to my knees. I then have absolutely no strength to continue walking. Oh yeah and My eye sight is decent i only wear glasses when driving at night.

  • Arlene, I might be totally off track here but could it be something with your vascular system? During pregnancy there is a lot of strain on the ovarian veins. They might get dilated and that makes the valves to leak. The typical symptom is that you get pain and a feeling of blood congestion in your lower pelvis and it can spread down to your inner side of your thighs, especially during lifting, coughing or sneezing. Of course it is worst if you are in vertical position. To diagnose this phlebography is required; ultrasound is no good because ovarian veins are too deep inside of pelvis. Could this help?

  • Thank you so much for your suggestion. I will definitely read up on it and suggest it to my physician. Oddly enough she asked me if I had any idea what it could be. I have an appt. with Neurology so we will see what they say but thank you again I will read on it an mention it.

  • I have had the same problem for years picking up my sons!!!! I get a ticklish annoying feeling in my vaginal area and it travels to my knees making them so weak i feel like they are gonna give out. I had 2 children 1yr 10 days apart so i was pregnant the second time about 4 months after i gave birth to my first son. My oldest is now 3yrs old my youngest almost 2. I still have these sensations. Thank god im not the only one!! I felt like I was going crazy as I have been told by Dr's the prob "should resolve itself" over time its been 3 yrs of discomfort not pain and fear of when I lift will I fall lasts about a min or so each time and dissapears after i wait it out or sit for a min. Have you had any actual answers????
