Hello, I am hoping someone can help point my doctor in the right direction. I am a 41 year old female. I have occasional severe flushing all over my head. The doctor says the inside of my nose and ears are red, and my scalp is hot. My blood pressure (generally a little high) drops during these episodes. I get a mild headache and sometimes my vision will "pulse" with my heartbeat. I will feel a little "out of it". This is occuring nearly everyday again, after a month long respite. I do not sweat during these, usually I am cold. I do not think it is related to menopause, or perimenopause as my periods are regular, to the day, every month.
I am also experiencing abdominal pain and cramping, with the worst of it being on my upper right side.
I also have terrible gas and bloating everyday. What I eat does not seem to matter.
My doctor seems baffled. I already had the "standard" blood tests, everything came out normal.
Can anyone help?

  • I forgot, usually when this happens I feel really jumpy and startle easily. I know it probably sounds like just stress, but I don't feel stressed (except about this).

  • your symptoms are caused from allergies, believe it or not. I had all of your symptoms. NAET or BioSET therapy is a way to eliminate allergies and relieve all symptoms....well, most. I had over 70 symptoms. I now have none. blessings mommy cat

  • i too are thinking maybe allergies.. Allergies can cause all kinds of symptoms eg problems with vision and a fall in BP can happen in Multiple chemical sensitivity. Maybe get your doctor to refer you to a allergy specialist............... " a paper provided by the Chemical Injury Information Network of White Sulphur Springs, Montana, lists more than 100 symptoms that may result from MCS, including sneezing, itching, twitching, numbness, difficulty swallowing, hoarseness, earache, chest pain, easy bruising, high or low blood pressure, sore muscles, cramps, eczema, "heavy eyes," blurred vision, dyslexia, frequent urination, genital itching, PMS, backache, nausea, belching, constipation, hunger, thirst, headaches, apathy, forgetfulness, insomnia, IQ drop, depression, bitter or sweet slime in mouth, heat sensitivity, cold sensitivity, stiffness, swelling, neck pain, anxiety attacks, agitation, liver pain, hair loss, premature gray hair, brain fog, and genital sweating. A note at the bottom of the page adds: "Unfortunately this is not a complete list of symptoms."

  • This may sound really odd, but ask your doctor to do barium xrays. I forget if they're called Upper GIs or Lower GIs, but either way, concentrate on your liver area. I had many of the same symptoms, and completely by accident, while doing these xrays to rule out some gastrointestinal things, the doctors found my liver tumor. Your liver is in your upper right quandrant of your abdomen, and I felt alot of the same pain, cramping, bloating, etc that you described. If you've ever had too much to eat & felt uncomfortably full, that's how I felt often (even without eating anything all day.) I'm not saying that you definitely have a tumor or anything, because it's pretty rare, but I just think the connection between severe flushing and this upper right stomach distress sounds too much like me to not say anything. Good luck!

Can you please describe your flushing which was wrongly diagnosed as carcinoid cancer? What areas of your face and body were red, and did you sweat or not during the flush, how often did you flush, how long did it last, and was flushing regularly spaced or were there sometimes many months between flushes? What tests were you given to diagnose the carcinoid? Did they include 5HIAA, seretonin, chromagranin-A, calctronin, gastrin, PP, histamine, indium octreotide scan, etc? Did they diagnose carcinoid because some of your tests were positive or just because your flush looked like carcinoid? I ask because I've been flushing on and off for 1 1/2 yrs on whole face, neck, upper chest, knee area and above, elbows, sometimes hands, arms and lower legs. It occurs as often as every few weeks or nothing for 6 or 8 mths. Between major flushes, I get very minor ones on cheek(s) and/or nose. I had all the above tests and a few more, and were all negative, but have no idea what else can cause such strong flushing. Carcinoid expert says it's not carcinoid. I am not an allergic type person -- no allergies to food, etc that I know of. Take no drugs, but do take many supplements. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks.Lori637

  • Hotone should definitely be checked for carcinoid liver cancer, for that could indeed account for both the flushing and the liver symptoms.
