Hi,
I am 24 years old, female from India.I have been suffering for the past one month with low grade fever (100 to 102F) with chills and knee pain (only right knee left side). The knee pain and chills get severe when the fever is on rise.
I was in USA (California) for 6 weeks for work. I went to Boston visiting friends for 4 days around 19th march 2008 to 23rd march 2008.It was extremely cold in Boston and it was very difficult for me to adjust to the weather. I came back to CA with slight fever.I came back to India in April first week.
I have been sick since 23rd March.
I got a lot of tests conducted like Brucella,Urine culture,Complete blood picture etc.
I also got tested for Rheumatoid factor,Anti nuclear antibody, both tests were negative.
Brucella and Urine culture show negative.
I also got an Ultrasound scan of abdomen which shows normal spleen, liver etc.
My esinophil, lymphocyte count is normal and my platelet count is also normal.
I have neutrophils in excess.
I took three different courses of anti biotics and they didnt work on me.
I was also given anti malarial drugs which didnt work for me.
Currently I am not on any medication as I am waiting for a few more test results. The only medication that I am taking is Acetaminophen 650 mg.
Please somebody help me,as the doctors here are unable to diagnose what is wrong with me.
Thanks a Lot in advance

  • Did you go out into the woods in Boston or walk in grass? Perhaps a tick bite resulting in Lyme disease...? I live in the Boston area, and yes, ticks were out that early.

So viral implication would be ruled out. Some of the symptomology speaks of a protzoa infection, however I could not find a link of neutrophils to protozoa. If all else fails why not find an Ayurvedic doc.

  • HI Ranu, I'm sorry to hear you've become so ill, what a horrible way to end such an interesting trip. I just wanted to add to the suggestion about Lyme's. The ticks that cause them are pretty small unless they've been on you for awhile and can get in your hair without you knowing. You'd just run across a bump on your head and realize it wasn't suppose to be there. Or that's what happened to my son a few months ago. His dr did blood work which came back negative, but he has to go back in a few months for another test as it can take time for it to show up. My daughter's family moved into a new home in a recently cleared lot and she's found them in her children's hair or on their bodies several times, she just checks every couple of days now just to be on the safe side. Since they are already doing test, and I do hope they find something simple if they have to find anything, having the test for Lyme's would be a good idea. Take care and I hope you feel better soon, Katb

  • Yes, I would ask about getting checked for Lyme.

  • You have to find a doctor specialized, who knows lyme and who will not just give you one test, you could miss it. What you show is the traditionnal beginning of lyme disease. You must tests for some tests, more than one.
