Hi everyone,

I am a 24 year old woman who had a baby 3 months ago, ever since two weeks after my baby was born, I have not been right. I have had all this pressure in my head, I have been off balence and dizzy, and I have not been able to see as well and I have been very fatigued. The doctors were concerned with this so I went through a series of tests, including xrays, ct scans, bloodwork and a mri. All of this is normal. I also have severe paranoia that I am going to drop dead at any moment! I have also been very depressed lately, but I do not know if I am depressed becasue I feel bad, or if I feel bad because I am depressed. I have recently talked to the dr. again and he put me on cymbalta to see if that helps. I just started taking it last thurs. so I really dont know if it is going to help me or not yet. I am just concered that this may not be depression at all. Does anyone know if my symptoms can be caused by depression or axniety, or if not, what can be causing my problems? I need help, the drs have done everything they can do and I still do not feel better. All my hope lies in this cymbalta drug and if it does not give me some relief, I think I might go crazy! Has anyone else ever felt this way, or has anyone that has just given birth felt this way. Thanks for any help you can give me.

  • You are not alone! Pregnancy and childbirth takes a lot out of you...are you breastfeeding? Did you have a norm pregnancy and birth? Any complications? Post partum depression is very common, and underdiagnosed. Also it is not uncommon to have dizziness and headaches - it takes a long time to get back into balance. Are you eating well? Are you taking any supplements? I still recommend taking prenatals at least a year after childbirth. Good for you AND the baby. Try to find a good alternative practitioner to help you with your symptoms. Cymbalta may or may not help you. A lot of antianxiety and antidepressant meds cause bad side effects and they are not for everyone. I suggest finding an acupuncturist who is a certified herbalist to get you back in balance. To find one visit www.acufinder.com. I have treated myself and others with this and it really helps! Please look up post partum depression on the net, and you will find you are not alone! Best wishes.DOM

  • Hi, I posted my problems to on here to see if I could get some help, if you are going to argue and bicker, please keep it to yourself! I hardly think my spelling is of any importance here, and if you don't care about my problems then please do not read about them! Ohh and by the way these problems have been going on for almost three months now and I have just only started taking cymbalta 5 days ago. Now if there is anyone out there who is feeling like I am feeling, or anyone with any advice that is actually helpful I would love to hear from you. I am just a scared new mom who wants to feel better so that I can enjoy my baby like I am supposed to do!

  • Hi everyone, i am not sure if anyone has ever experienced such but please, i am a bit worrried. I had been down with the flu a couple of weeks ago but because i didn't stay in bed and try to recuperate properly i have now gotten a re-lapse. This time around i am far worst off. I am physically week and even when i am on my feet for more than 2 minutes, I feel dizzy spells coming on - bouts of blackness as though i am about to faint. I have been resting now and drinking lots of fluids and trying to eat even though i have not really had an appetite. I have been taking my meds as well and this includes vitamin C and the doctor also prescribed TriHemic for the dizziness/blackouts. Well anyway, when i went to the bathroom today for a bowel movement (i hadn't had one on about 2 days) the stool was very black and also had an unusual smell, almost like a sick one. I've had the flu may times before and never had this type of stool. I was wondering if the TriHemic can be the cause of this. This really has me scared. Can someone please tell me if this is normal, I am so scared.

  • HiI don't know if this may help, but I had similar head pressure, headaches and dizziness which was not related to pregnancy. This was caused by an infection which affected the blood vessels in my head and caused them to swell thus causing the pressure sensation. A short cause of tablets had immediate affect, may be worth a try as I'm thinking this may not show up on any of the tests. Hope you find a solution soon and you can enjoy your new baby.

  • I also have been having the same symptoms since I had my daughter in May 2006. They have not gone away...only got worse and now I have the dizziness which I have never had before. All my tests are also coming back normal. I'm thinking it may be a hormone problem. Try a doctor who practices alternative medicine or a wellness center with a doctor who specializes in allergies and immunology. That's where Im at right now...hopefully it will help

  • Hi, am sorry you had to deal with the sometimes rude response that happens online. There are us out here that do care though. I work for a doctors office but am by no means trying to take the place of your own doctor. Your being dizzy and off balance could be from lower blood pressure and the post childbirth. It should be reported though if continues. Does it happen when you are getting up from sitting? laying down? or just walking around? Try to get more protein in your diet and red meat will build red blood back up in your body also. Depression happens to some following childbirth for it is traumatic to a woman's body and hopefully it will soon pass for you.

  • Hi this is for the lady thats just had the baby Do you have friends and family who you can talk too it sounds like post natal depression to me and you really need help and support around you at this difficult time, is there a mother and baby group you could join there will be lots of young mums who can understand how you feel, post natal depression is a medical problem and the doctor will help you with this, but getting out and being kind to yourself will help and love and support from your nearest and dearest you do not need to deal with this alone i do care about you and would love you to be able to enjoy your new baby:)Diane

    8 Surprising Facts About Cholesterol

Did you know that one in six US adults has high cholesterol?

  • Just wanted to say that I a tough time after my daughter was born. Like you, I wasn't sure if the pain cause the depression or the depression caused the pain but the result is not enough serotonin in your brain. (It is used up trying to make you feel better when you are in pain, and your body can't keep up). I tried Effexor and it helped with my mood a bit. I finally switched to Cymbalta and it gave me my life back!!!! It helped with some of the physical pain and fatigue and my mood. I did not have any side effects. I don't want to take it forever, I am not big into pills, but sometimes we all need help. Pregnancy and childbirth take a lot out of you and all women experience it differently. If you need the help for a little while, try the cymbalta. Best of luck to you. Some people don't feel themselves for YEARS after childbirth and I ALWAYS felt dizzy while breastfeeding, it went away when I weaned my girls.
