Rajen is 48years
Rajen’s symptoms started in November 2006, whilst walking suddenly his right leg became stiff and there was pain in his right groin. He could hardly lift the leg to walk and had to drag it along. These symptoms in the right leg stayed for a day or two and gradually resolved. But gradually in January 2007 he had a limp when walking and now the limp and balance has gone worst.
They have done MRI of the brain and MRI of the cervical and thoracic spine which are normal. They have done lumbar puncture in June. Electrodiagnostic tests (NCS and EMG) done were normal. He developed chest infection and was diagnosed with pneumonia and took two courses of antibiotics and no improvement at all. He gets cramping pains in his right leg and right calf at night and balance is a big problem. Lately needs a walking stick.
For his asthma he only uses an inhaler (ventolin or becotide). Three years ago he had one attack and was diagnosed ulcerative colitis that flared up during an acute episode of asthma. He is not taking any medication for the colitis.
We had gone to Nairobi 3 weeks ago and my brother-in law had put him on steroids (Prednisone) otherwise Rajen would have difficulty in travelling as his cough was very bad. 1st week he was on 60mg (he felt very good, cough was gone etc) , 2nd week he reduced to 30mg, 3rd week reduced to 15mg and now on 10mg a day and he is hoping to stop next week completely if the cough disappears.
