Hi , where do i begin, my face is getting very red etc and i think its from alcohol abuse. I have overly drank for the last year or so and now have small dots etc appearing, i am so distraught. I gave up smoking 6 weeks ago and do rarely have a small smoke of cannabis.

I have seen the amount of help people are getting and realy hope someone can help me, it is so depressing :( I have been using bio oil ,(im in the uk) in the hope it will help, it dosent seem to be...i am also trying to drink more water.

Would even a tanning salong help , if i went a cpl times a week? Please all advice is really needed. My skin has gone from great to a quite worrying state. I will check the post when i finish work......i really hope the marks dont stay as broken cells

Thanks for reading

  • I think you may be have rosacea:http://www.rosacea.org/index.phpAlcohol is a trigger substance for many people. If it's rosacea, it can be treated, and you can learn to avoid your trigger substances. It's not harmful, but yes, it causes distress about appearance.I am not a doctor. My dermatologist has a lot of pamphlets about it. You don't need a tanning salon, you need a dermatologist. If it's rosacea, the sooner you see a dermatologist, the better. It will mean early treatment and a better appearance for you. If it's another skin condition, a dermatologist will know for sure. It's worth going for career reasons. Look at it that way. Drinking water is definitely good for the skin no matter what is wrong. To reassure you that there is hope, I am adding a link to some before and after photos of people who had extreme cases of rosacea before treatment:http://www.rosacea.org/patients/treatmentphotos.phpIf they can do that for them, chances are you will look like your old self after treatment if that's what this is. Sounds like a mild case if it is. Best of luck to you. Don't panic. Just get to a doctor.

  • I hadn't considered the cold, but that is another trigger as per the site. Alcohol makes you feel warmer, but it actually makes a person more susceptible to cold. You might just have damage to the skin from the combination. Rosacea is very common though, so I think it's worth seeing a doctor as it is clear you are concerned about maintaining your skin in the best condition. Skin problems can be very distressing because they have social and professional consequences. I think you are wise to protect your skin. Many people do not, and later regret it. I am very glad if my post helped.

This can make your condition much worse. I agree with rosacea - this usually feels discomforting as well as a warm sensation to the face. Metrogel is a common treatment, and often really helps. If the bio oil (sorry I don't know what that is) is not helping, discontinue it. I would stick with a mild aloe product or even try green tea - it has excellent antimicrobial properties. I have used a product called Herbal Answers Aloe gel here in the US -it is fantastic. Colloidal silver may also be helpful. I hope you are able to address the drinking problem and get the help you need to get this under control. Best wishesDOM
