Ok, so I posted a thread here about a month ago and got a few good ideas (such as heavy lead poisoning) that were all blown off by my doctor. Here is my origanal thread:

I'm a 25 year old female. For almost 2 years I've been going to my doctor for fatigue and palpatations and shortness of breath. Everytime I saw the doctor I was told it was becasue I was under too much stress or was having anxiety attacks. Tried anti-depressants.. didn't help. About a year ago I started getting rashes all over my stomach and chest, looks like red vitaligo (?) and it comes and goes in a matter of hours. Doctors said it wasn't hives. Then in late june of this year my lung collapsed. After I had a chest tube I was released but 4 days later it collapsed again. I had suregery to fix it and was told it was a spontaneous phemothorax that was caused by excess amounts of blebs. Everyday since the surgery I've felt worse. I'm still very tired all the time, the rash comes and goes, I can barely breath at all, and sometimes my heart feels like its going to jump out of my chest. Seems like I can nevr catch my breath. I'm on oxygen and inhalers but nothing seems to work. The doctors have run me through all the standard tests but can't figure out anything. I'm too young for all this, I've had to quit my job and I can barely play with my kids. Any advice would be so appreciated!!

Here is an update. I still have the heart palpatations and shortness of breath, odd rash still comes and goes. I have noticed a few new things though. My feet have started turning purple. My doctor said it was normal if I sit or stand too long or if my feet are cold. Well the purple feet happens all the time, no matter if I'm cold or hot, sitting, standing,. walking, laying down.... etc. Also I had another Ct done and it showed nodules on the upper portion of my lungs that the dr said was emphysema. Yes I do smoke but have cut down alot and have only smoked for 8 years, which isn't very long considering. I know I need to quit but.... Aside from the purple feet I'm also starting to have alot of pain. Its pretty much my entire right lung (the one that collapsed) but there is alot of sharp pain right on my side about 4 inches under my arm pit. Its almost unbearable when i laugh or cough or take a deep breath in. Also right under my shoulder blade there is a lump that hurts all the time. My doctor most recently said and I quote, that I am his mystery patient. Please if you think you may know what this is please let me know. This is starting to drive me crazy and I can't do ANYTHING anymore!

Thanks in advance

I know you don't want to hear that, but with your poor lung function and your poor circulation you are going to kill yourself if you continue smoking. 8 years is long enough for some people to develop cancer or emphysema. Please, please just do this one thing - quit completely. If not for your health than for your childrens'! Consider acupuncture to help with your quitting and also help improve your lung function. Acupuncture is extremely helpful for palps and anxiety as well. Find a qualified one at www.acufinder.com and make sure they are NCCAOM certified in acupuncture and chinese herbs. Have you been seeing the same doctor since this all started? If so, get a new one. The purple feet shows your circulation is not functioning correctly. People who smoke can get terrible neuralgia in the legs. You may have Raynaud's - have they ruled that out? Wishing you the best of luck and hope you can quit smoking! Best wishesDOM

  • Can you go to a great teaching hospital? So many things could cause most of your problems. Auto immune diseases, infections etc. etc. A team approach such as what you see at great teaching hospitals can help sometimes when you have a "mystery case" going on. The rash needs to be looked into; could be auto immune related or an infection. Also with your history of recent lung collapses and the pain you are in related to your lungs; I think you should be closely followed by a pulmonary specialist dr. JMOYes to what the other poster said about those cigarttes. Quit the ***n cigarettes!!! Your heart, your lungs and your body in general are affected by those coffin nails, in so many ways you cannot fully comprehend at 25 yrs old. Smoking cigarettes makes your heart have to work harder to get oxygen and nutrients to the rest of the body; and cigarette smoking is as bad if not worse as high cholesterol for your heart. With your lung problems, smoking cigarettes is one of the worst things you could do to your body imo. Cigarette smoking increases the risks of some cancers such as breast cancer. And you have young children who should not be around cigarette smoke either; plus your smoking sets a bad example for them to follow. Another good reason to quit smoking for good.My dad had a heart attack at 42 years old; he believes the cigarettes were the biggest factor in causing his heart attack. He quit cold turkey the day he had his heart attack and fortunately he was lucky he did not die from his his first heart attack (with some folks their 1st heart attack symptom is also their last symptom they get, because they don't survive their 1st attack. :( )If your dr is blowing you off (your words) ... maybe it is time to find a dr who will listen to you better. Get a second opinion from someone who is not connected to your current dr, and is well qualified and highly respected. But most of all find a dr who willl listen to you and take your complaints seriously.JMO Good luck. I hope you find the answers you need as your condition sounds quite debilitating (you said you were unable to work now). You are only 25 and on Oxygen (O2 and cigarettes btw is a bad combo... fire hazard) ; something is not right it seems and I feel imo that you need to find a dr willing and able to help you get things figured out.Keep us all posted; many do care here.Ok, so I posted a thread here about a month ago and got a few good ideas (such as heavy lead poisoning) that were all blown off by my doctor. • Can you find the pulse in your feet or lower legs? When you raise your legs in the air does the purple go away? If so, you need an ultrasound doppler study of the lower extremities.

  • No the reynauds hasn't been ruled out but it seems like my doctor has given up, he doesn't want to run anymore tests and has decided to approach the whole thing with a "wait and see" attitude. About the circulation, Sometimes it goes away, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes I'll be standing and my feet are purple, then outta know where my feet get hot and itchy and turn bright red. I can still be standing in the same position when that happens, and I have no idea why. Anyways, thank you all for the suggestions, and by the way I've almost quit and I've already found a good herbalist.Kim
