I am a male in my late 40s. Since I was ~ 25 yrs old my syptoms have steadly increased to where i am now in serious trouble and the Doctors can not find anything. Syptoms - shortness of breath with any exercise, fingers swell each day, mussles in my upper back tighten and knot up if I sit for more than 1 hr.
Upon standing my arms and legs get real heavy and feel kind of numb. I loose my balance and ability to walk straight. If I do not sit back down I will fall down. Sometimes I get double vision resulting from an eye mussle spasm. Everything seems to be mussle related somehow. I have had almost every test possible. MRI, CAT, blood work, CRT,
At this time, I am looking into water retention related causes as I suspect this may be related to breathing difficlties and fingers swelling.
Tired and worn out, not scared anymore just plain angry and tired. I would like to be around for my Grand Kids.

  • Maybe get an endocrinologist to see you, although you may have already done that. What medications are you on? Do you drink? Any infections of note recently? Any urinary symtoms? • maybe best to keep discussions on blaze at another thread rather than a serious one like this one where someone really is needing some advice. WAP..dont let members of this site put you off, there are all types here. As far as senior members go, that dont mean much, it either means that person posts heaps or they have been at this site a long time (so have posted a lot due to that reason). Ive been at this site since 2006 (thou I do post a lot too). I dont tell ALL the following, thou in your case it may??? be relevant, as it can cause symptoms as yours and doctors do often miss this diagnoses esp in males as it is less common in males. The CDC (centre of disease control in America) has said that up to 90% of cases are undiagnosed! (doctors are slowly only just now becoming educated about this illness) Chronic fatigue syndrome often causes shortness of breath (esp when exercising) and can cause all the other symptoms you mentioned too. In studies done.. it has been shown that 55-70% of CFS patients have fluid retention and swelling. for the proper statistics http://wwcoco.com/cfids/bernesx.html (shows symptoms and the actual percentages of CFS people who have been found to have them in proper studies done). In my own case.. Ive had incidents with foot swelling and whole hand swelling with the CFS. From what you've said so far, it's hard to say that if CFS is likely in your case or not, without having more info. IF it is CFS, it is very likely that you also will probably have sleep abnormalities (over sleeping or an altered sleep cycle or issues with insomina.. 65-100% of ones with CFS have sleep issues) and problems with your memory or concentration (70-100% have this issue) as well. (If you dont have these issues going on as well, it is less likely that you have CFS. Also consider if your symptoms are post excertional (if you are worst after stress either physical stress eg exercise or emotional stress.. that's another CFS thing).. stiffness (kind of what you explained with the knots and the back tightening.. i'd regard that as stiffness).. is common in CFS too (thou also common in other things as well). To rule out this possibility.. I suggest for you to check out the canadian CFS criteria.. (which is stricter than the American guidelines..so ones who dont have CFS are less likely to meet diagnostic criteria). As i said.. without more info.. it's hard to say if CFS is likely in your case or not. If you end up ruling out everything else and seem to have enough symptoms which would qualify for a CFS diagnoses.. then get other tests relevant to CFS done.. which can back up a CFS diagnoses. With CFS there are things which do show up in tests! and some abnormalities IF the right tests are being done, should be found.

  • Hi WAP,Hypothyroidism also causes fatigue after exercise or better known as exercise intolerance. Some people get it immediately after any exertion. • Thank you everyone for you compassion and support!! I am currently not on any medicine, as I have tried just about everything and I do not drink or smoke The good news! I started taking a water pill yesturday morning and so far so good. I have gone 1 day with no mussle, vision or balance issues. This is very exciting. If this continues for a couple more days, I entend to see my cardiaologist and tell him whats going on, as I suspect possibly congestive heart failure. With a little luck, exercise and diet maybe I can overcome this thing. Are there other causes for water retention? It is really nice being able to talk with caring others who understand. Thanks! :)
