i recently had a first rib removal on my right side. before i was experiencing pain in my arm pit and chest (a little above the middle of the sternum) after the surgery everything(pain) was relieved my chest still hurt but i can feel it get better. i waited about two three months to start the gym very lightly. i did front shoulders 5 pounds and two days after the pain in the middle of my sternum went away but i had some really odd pain after. for about two months any carrying movement cough or sneeze i have, i feel sharp pain across my chest like a line. like a shooting pain from a little above the mid point of my sternum to the beginning of my armpit. like a straight across line i even feel a little on my tricep. i feel like someone drawn a line across my chest and pinched it constanly its horrible i need help please if anyone know what this is. its been 3 months now i start the police academy in january 2011 i need to be fit. i will go see my doctor and a neurologist too. please help

  • Hmmmm what exactly was the point of the rib removal? By my understanding the recovery time for a full recovery of a removed rib is usually 2-3 months but varies upon that of the individual. You may want to ask the surgeon that removed it though.

  • thank for replying the removal was because it was pressuring my brachial plexus. i couldnt raise my arm and stuff. even touching the actual scar make me feel like an electrical feeling threw my back of my tricep and that line threw my chest.

  • Ya I would definately contact the surgeon who removed the rib and ask him about it as you could still be healing. If he doesn't believe that is the case maybe he can point you in the right direction.
