After two and a half days in bed with a sinus infection, I finally felt well enough to get up on the third day. I hadn't eaten much or had much to drink while I was down, so I had some leftover mashed potatos, a little turkey, and a 12 oz glass of apple juice for breakfast. Then I headed to the hospital to visit a friend. On the way there I was feeling dehydrated so I drank a 32 oz gatorade, a cup of coffee, and a 5-hour energy on the way to the hospital.

I visited with my friend for a couple of hours and headed home. I called my wife from the parking lot to let her know and left a voice message for a friend 15 mins later. 15 minutes after that, I lost consciousness and had an accident. I don't remember the accident or driving home from it. I don't remember anything for about 6 hours.

The police say I blew a breathalyzer of .21. They transferred me to the sherrif's dept. a couple of hours later where I started throwing up and my nose started bleeding uncontrollably. They took me to the hospital where my BAC registered .23. The hospital gave me iv fluids and a couple of hours later they released me to the sherrif's department.

I didn't have a drop to drink for more than 3 days. How can this happen? Please help!

  • This is an old thread but I'm hoping that by posting this, others may find it and learn. Endogenous Auto Intoxication is classified as a "rare" disease, probably because the traditional Western Medical Doctor does not recognize yeast overgrowth as a problem. However, I'm in the middle of a 4 year long struggle with my husband that involves this very end diagnosis. We went through 2 neurologists, a battery of tests and potential diagnoses including narcolepsy, Alzheimer's, stroke, epilepsy, brain tumor, metabolic disorders, multiple personality disorder, and just plain anxiety disorder. None of which were confirmed and left us more frightened, confused and alienated than before we started. It wasn't until I took my husband to the ER during an "episode" that we finally found a blood alcohol of .292. During the time that he was at the ER, he snapped out of his odd behavior, but not before they labeled him an alcoholic and advised us to get him treatment. My husband was with me all day and it was unlikely that he had been sneaking alcohol. It has happened several times since, and we now own a blood alcohol monitor. I finally had to diagnose him myself and then got him to a doctor who is also a naturopath and has an excellent reputation for diagnosing illnesses that no one else can diagnose. After a 2 hour intake, he confirmed my own diagnosis. My husband has a systemic yeast overgrowth. When he eats carbohydrates of any kind, the yeast ferments ethanol and he becomes drunk. The yeast emit other toxins too, one of which is formaldehyde, which does not show up on the blood alcohol monitor, but also causes him to behave oddly. The treatment for this disease is a low carbohydrate diet/anti fungal diet. No fruit, no alcohol, no cheese, no vinegar, nothing with yeast...basically he has meat, oils, green vegetables, organic eggs and some nuts. He is also on a battery of supplements. It's been 6 months, and he still has episodes, although they are less severe and his overall health is improving. I will eventually build a website to help others, but wanted to post here as a start. I have to say that not only have I been told flat out by medical doctors that this diagnosis is incorrect, but we have proven them wrong without a doubt. If you or someone you know is suffering from drunken like symptoms or have been tested for high bac when you haven't been drinking, it's imperative to see a GOOD naturopath who will be willing to test you for yeast in your system as a start. Getting through this takes a lot of time, just as developing a yeast overgrowth takes a lot of time. It's generally caused by things like Lyme Disease and/or heavy metal poisoning that compromises your body's ability to regulate a health yeast population in your system. Even more scary is that yeast affects personality, causes cravings, and does untold damage to your internal organs. I believe I read somewhere that up to 35% of alcoholics tested positive for yeast overgrowth in their system, suggesting that the addiction may not be a true addiction but one fueled by yeast. The American diet is full of yeast friendly food. Until we return to a healthy diet, I believe this will become an epidemic in our country. I myself have tested very low levels of blood alcohol when not drinking due to the yeast in my own system emitting ethanol waste. I hope that this post helps at least one person get on the right track for fixing a problem that can absolutely ruin someone's life.

  • I'm so glad I found this, did you ever find out what it was? I took my husband to the ER last night, he was so sick and they said his blood alcohol was 4% over the legal limit but he didn't drink. I'm so worried what might be wrong with him. Ironically, he also drank a gatorade and energy drink (which he never drinks) earlier that day.

  • im wondering too, my husband was however drinking but not nearly enough to produce that much alcohol in his blood .130 and is now looking at a DWI trial, they want to give him probation and other stuff but i know for a fact her only had 3 beers in a 4 hour period. I have scheduled him an appointment with a Naturopath to test for candida and will mention his other issues.

  • I'M AWARE OF THE CONDITION YOU ARE TALKING ABOUT. I WISH I REMEMBERED THE NAME OF IT, SO SORRY. I SAW A PERSON ON A TALK SHOW A FEW YEARS AGO AND THIS PERSON WAS DIAGNOSED WITH HAVING A DISORDER THAT SHOWED THE BAC HIGH WITHOUT HAVING A DRINK OF ALCOHOL. IT WAS EITHER ON OPRAH OR DR. PHIL. PLEASE CALL THEIR PRODUCERS AND ASK THEM TO GO THROUGH THEIR ARCHIVES TO HELP WITH YOUR DIAGNOSIS. I REALLY HOPE YOU GET YOUR ANSWERS SOON. GOD BLESS YOU
