I have been ill for three weeks now; my symptoms are the following;
- Chest infection (first prescribed with anti-biotics, then went to hospital on my fourth day of taking them with no improvement, then was put on a course of steroids).
- Rash (mainly under armpits and groin, look like hives)
- Swollen palms of hands, swollen lip and eye.
- Tips of fingers peeling.
- Loss of appetite.
- Nausea occasionally.
- Weak and exhausted.
- Lack of sleep due to constant coughing.
- Fever.

I have been to the doctor four times now, and I have been tested for glandular fever, however the test has came back negative and the doctor has said that I am 'on the mend' however, my symptoms are persisting and i do not feel satisfied with what the doctor is telling me and sleepless nights and constant exhaustion is becoming very frustrating.

I would really appreciate it if anyone could give me an idea of what this could be, or if you could give me any advice.

Thanks, Daniel.

(Another thing that may be worth knowing about is that over the past year I have had numerous problems with my bowels, with bleeding and mucus on the stool, and very irregular bowel patterns. I have also been to the doctors and hospital for this; however I am yet to be diagnosed.)

  • Is your cough dry?What tests did you have? Could be Sarcoidosis...But this would indicate chest X-ray. Others symptoms? Diarrhea, abdominal pain ...? And whats your liver or kidneys is it ok?

  • Well this seems like an infection going through a 2nd phase. I can understand you being on antibiotics, but why steroids??? All you symptoms are due to an infection....Swollen palms of hands, swollen lip and eye make me think of Kawasaki disease, but that usually affect kids. How old are you? You must have gone through a lot of blood tests and imaging studies...What are the results?

  • I would recommend you having a sputum culture,(although you don`t display the symptomes of a bacterial infection) a urinalysis(although the swollen might be due to corticotherapy) and a Colonoscopy( this investigation not being related to your present condition but to your history of bleeding stools-in order to rule out Crohn`s disease or ulcerative colitis)
