I am a 24 year old female who's had anxiety since the age of 12. Around the beginning of September 2009 I suffered a severe anxiety attack. The affects lasted well into October, but by the end of that month I was pretty much me again.

A week or so before November ended, I started having weird heart sensations, shortness of breath and chest pain. The chest pain was so bad I went to the ER and had all the required tests run. Everything came back normal. I told my mom that something seemed really weird/wrong with my heart. We went to the cardiologist mid-December, who told me I had mitro valve prolapse. The MVP can cause a myriad of symptoms so he told me not to be alarmed by the strange thing I was feeling. The thing is, during the time I was having breathing difficulty, chest pain, etc I was also having muscle twitching in my head and back of my neck. I also started having really severe pain in my neck, back and shoulders. I was also experiencing sudden bursts of warmth in places like my neck or hands or feet.

The twitching then spread to my arms and my stomach. On top of that I was just feeling generally unwell. Nauseous, dizzy, feeling of a sinus infection, a slimy substance that would slide down my throat sometimes, and muscle pain. By this time I had typed in my symptoms to google and of course ALS came up. I was very freaked out by it, and, being an anxious person started to think that's exactly what I had.

I eventually convinced myself that all I had was some vitamin deficiency and started taking B-12 and D. Within just a few days I began to feel better. More of myself. The twitching went away and everything!

That was the beginning of Feb. By the end of the month, the muscle pain and twitching had come back. Now it seemed like my symptoms were more severe. My ears were ringing/popping, my vision sometimes would blur. I got terrible headaches with scalp tenderness and the muscle pain was all over my body. Also my joints would sometimes feel achy and my bones began cracking more so than usual. My pinky finger also began to feel weird. Still scared about the ALS I thought, what if this the beginning of my muscle weakness? I also started noticing myself lisping. When I think about it now, I remember lisping a few times earlier in the year and realizing even then that it was weird.

So now of course I'm really freaked out/scared because I'm thinking I have bulbar onset ALS. Just the worst case scenario I can conjure. So I see my GP and tell her about the twitching, buzzing under
my feet, etc and she refers me to the neurologist. Granted she's just humoring me b/c she's sure I'm just experiencing anxiety.

I saw the neuro in early march and during the test I could move facial muscles as well as all of my other muscles, still had sensation, but I had hyperreflexia. He didn't believe I had ALS, but he said to be sure nothing else is going on, he scheduled me for an MRI of my brain. I'm still waiting to go over the results of that test, but other things have cropped up since, starting with my tongue. I've been sucking my tongue all of my life and I just...can't anymore. Seems silly but it's true. I haven't been slurring or anything close to that, but the lisping thing comes and goes. I've also been having difficulty swallowing, which comes and goes as well.

Here's the list of all the symptoms I've had so far:
-weird mucus (yellowish and clear in color) dripping down my throat at times
-Bad headaches
-Tender scalp
-Blurred vision
-Twitching all over my body (even in private areas)
-Achy joints
-Cracking joints
-Burning sensation of the skin
-sudden and brief Bursts of heat in back of neck, shoulders, hands feet
-Tingling in hands/feet
-Feels like popcorn popping/spasming of muscles in my right leg first and now my left arms
-crawling sensation in the back of my neck
-On and off lisping
-Seizing of muscles in neck and twice my arms and neck at the same time
-As of late I feel like either I can't hold my pee as well or I have to pee more
-Gas. Lots and lots of gas. My bowels just feel irritated.
-random low fevers... This was happening since around December
-nausea. It was worse mid-march but now it comes and goes
-difficulty swallowing (not swallowing food)
-difficulty breathing. Recently went to the ER but they said my lungs were clear, even though at one point I felt completely light headed and as if my air passage was squeezing
-random chills
-difficulty sleeping
-out of sorts sometimes/confused
-what feels like pinches or sometimes electricity???? in my back muscles
-FATIGUE
-weight loss (due mainly to anxiety, but maybe something else)...no muscles wasting though

Sorry for the long list but I just want to be clear about what I'm feeling. I think those are all of my symptoms thus far.

Strange things that happened prior to my feeling sick:

-twice feeling like my whole body was itching severely. I took showers, changed my bed sheets, slept on a different bed and finally concluded that the itching was coming from me. It had happened on two occasions last year and hasn't happened since

-what I now think was an insect bite besides the normal one from a mosquito. It was redder than a regular mosquio bite and just looked different. I don't believe there was a bullseye, but I just remember this thing lingering longer than any other bite. I still remember it for that reason.

Previous tests:
-bloodwork which showed me being on the low end of normal for my hemoglobin and thyroid.

Family history:
-my mom has graves disease and MVP

If anyone can give a helpful suggestion I would be eternally grateful. I feel like I'm at my wits end, and everyone around me is brushing it off as anxiety. I just KNOW there's something going on with me and any help would be extremely apppreciated.

Jewel, If the B12 supplements made you feel better why did you stop taking them. It does sound like you have it. B12 deficiency. There is a thread on this website that deals strictly with B12 deficiency. Have you ever had a blood serum B12 level taken? If you havent, also add homosystene and uMMA tests along with it. This will tell you if you are deficient. Doctors will read this test 200 to 1200 rate. In Japan they dont let it get lower than 550. I believe this is the right level to go by. I have B12 deficiency, and if you have any questions let me know. Here is a quick link to read from this website. It will give you some info to read. Do not post there. http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/showthread.php?t=62327Check out all the basics and the list of symptoms. You will be amazed at how much b12 covers.

I just KNOW there's something going on with me and any help would be extremely apppreciated.--Jewel K.Hi, Long story coming...I hope it HELPS SOMEONE! My daughter who is almost 23 has been through SO much medically for five LONG YEARS. ER visits/ I mean probably 100 total/ heart specialist/ gastro intestinal specialist/psychiatrists/ regular doctor visits...they have done all but call her crazy, wait they have done that too! more drugs than an 80 year old. Ambulance rides/ no insurance/ loss of numerous jobs to due to feeling sick/ dropped out of college for missing too much due to illness/credit rating shot, we tried to pay the bills, but we literally were at 98,000/ broken freindship/ very strained relationship with her boyfriend/ and I must admit I was at my wits end! We knew she had an allergy to sulfa drugs. Her symptoms which they have said were simply anxiety are as follows. They may happen at different times, and may not be all at once, and the gastro is the worst for her, and this was a daily basis... headaches, rapid heartbeat, confusion, fainting(once while her car hit a pole on the way to school) nausea, vomiting, loose stools, stomach pain, rectal bleeding, insomnia, sleeping during the day bc of pain, anxiety, hormonal like issues, tingling in her arms, flushing, hot flashes, fevers, abnormal blood cell count at times, she was fed antibiotics due to this, and I doubt she had infections, increased sweating, throat closing, difficulty breathing, metal taste in her mouth, taking too many pills, because she grew tired of living sick, and wanted her pain to end, itching/hives & short term memory loss, feeling as if she were dying, feeling of impending doom, and sadly I may have forgot one or two! This obviously brought on depression & has made her question her own sanity after 5 years! She has had 3 colonoscopy procedures, her gall bladder removed, her appendix removed. She has been called a druggie, and been refused vicoden, the only thing that helped her "imagined" pain. A week ago it came to me that her ONE A DAY vitamins may contain sulfa products, and they do, unfortunately since she was poisoning herself on a daily basis with no diagnosis, her allergies are now much worse. She felt better for a week, and then ate shrimp, that will be the last time! Her head was extremely itchy. I bought her sulfa free shampoo today. that is already better. I have come to the conclusion that she has been suffering from anaphalaxis,it is life threatening, and involves the entire body during an extreme allergic reaction, in her case it is sulfa. This can happen with sting allergies/ drug allergies/ food allergies like soy very common & found in many foods, or a combo drug/ food like my daughter has. It can be minor, or major. It can start one day never having prior issues. you cna have some of the signs, she just had them all, very extreme case. she has been to 4 hospitals in two states, specialist/ doctors. literally no answers! God waited for the doctors to give up, and then let me know what it was. I pray this helps someone end their pain. If anyone is having these symptoms, any or all...loss of bladder control also an issue listed, but since she spent most of her time in the bathroom rectal & vomiting that may have been an issue of hers not sure. If you are suffering from any or all of these, PLEASE look it up! research anaphalaxis, and you may cure what the doctors can't. We are still trying to understand how NOBODY could figure it out, something so destructive for so long was so simple! it is still going to take time to figure out everything that triggers her, but at least we are on the right track! Best of luck to anyone suffering as she has, and to your families, it's ******n everyone, and I am truly sorry, and hope you're feeling better soon!Peace,Darla

  • wow! thanks for the feedback from both. i'll have to investigate more about this b12 deficiency though i'm pretty astounded by what i've read so far. i had no idea b12 deficiency could cause SOOOO much damage. and prior to trying those vitamins for about a month, i NEVER took and i still don't take vitamins. i'll also check out the allergy thing.as of right now, it's a bit hard for me to type b/c i feel like i'm going in and out, and this out of control headache isn't really helping. very hard to focus.

  • Get tested for lyme disease. The fact that you had a rash (which doesn't have to be a bullseye) before the onset of your symptoms, could mean that you were bitten by a tick. It could have been a nymph stage tick, which would have been difficult to see. Go to lymenet.com to read more about the disease, and visit the forums to see if any of it sounds familiar. Lyme disease is seriously underdiagnosed, because most tests that are used by the big labs (Quest, LabCorp), are unreliable.I hope you don't have it, because I have had it for 10 yrs., and have many of the same symptoms as you. Many courses of antibiotics have not erradicated it. My symptoms are: excessive joint cracking, muscle twitches, tingling, headaches, lots of muscle trigger points (knots), word retrieval problems, joint pain, TMJ, MVP, heart arrythmias, fatigue, IBS, to name a few.Good luck!

  • I believe you have more than just anxiety. Sounds like chronic fatigue immunity dysfunction syndrome (CFIDS) also called ME and CFS (throu which there are many subsets of).. You would find you meet the Canadian diagnostic definition of CFIDS which is used about the world including where I are in Australia to diagnose). I suggest you look up the Canadian CFIDS diagnostic defination, immune and nervous system dysfunctions etc are necessary in CFIDS for a diagnoses in both Canada and Australia. ......... Infections, low grade fevers and Hyper-reflexia often happens in CFIDS along with the other symptoms you have.
