I'm 20 years old and both of my feet start to turn to a purplish color within 5 minutes of sitting down. They also do this while I'm standing still. The only time this doesnt occur is when I'm laying down or doing something active with my legs. At times my feet get a tingling feeling or start to swell up after they have turned purple. This has been goin on at least since March of this year. I dont smoke and I am pretty active especially during school. I just recently went to the doctor and he had no clue what it was. The only thing he kept askin was if I smoked. He wanted me to take blood pressure medication but I wasnt very comfortable takin some meds for a condition he had no idea about. Does anyone have an idea what this could be??

  • First you must find a doctor that wants to find out the cause of your problem before he starts passing out the meds. I've had the same problem you're talking about for years. I have Raynauds this is due to poor currculation. Mine tends to get worse in the winter. I have tingling, burning, and numbness at times. I turn blue and deep red in my feet, arms, and fingers. My doctor put me on Ecotrin to keep the blood thinned down. I'm sure you probably stay cold too. Just try and stay warm this helps Good luck,Laura

I'm recent on this sight looking for an answer to a two year condition of my own and saw your message which attracted me because our company focused on children and learning are submitting ot OSU for R&D help. I really hope you find an answer. Seeing my friend have this problem and witnessing the purple feet just after minutes is frieghtening. Maybe you two could talk and exchange DR reviews? Let me know if you are interested my email adr is inperfecthealth@yahoo.com. I just created it for responses off this website since today was my first posting. Good luck! T

For what I understand about Raynauds is that when your feet are cold is when it turns to the purplish color. My feet only get cold after they have been purple for awhile. Otherwise they are usually warm 1. He took my blood pressure and it was good. It was where it should be. 2. He didnt do any tests which bothered me or even refer me to someone who would do tests. 3. yeah my feet only turn purplish when i'm sittin down and standing up. But during an activity that uses my legs they go back to normal. They dont do it when i'm layin down either. I'm pretty active so i know thats not the problem. I walk about 30 min to and hour every day. 4. I've had cramps in my feet before and actually experienced crampin in them last night.

  • If you don't have high blood pressure and take the meds for high blood pressure, that can cause serious trouble. You probably need a heart stress test and a referral to a cardiologist. Get rid of this doc.

No i'm not on any drugs. The only thing I'm really on is birth control (Nuva Ring) to help with puking (menstrual cycle makes me sick). He wanted me to take blood pressure meds to see if it would help but i wasnt comfortable takin it when he had no idea what the problem is. I have an appointment with a dr a week from tomorrow with a guy who specializes with feet problems and symptoms. Yeah I dont smoke and I dont drink. I've never had problems with activities with my feet. It seems as though as I'm always tired even though I get at least 8 hours of sleep at night. I dont know if I said in my first post that my feet swell up too. It mainly does it after my feet have turned purplish Where can i find information on those problems so i can read more about it.

Get rid of this doc. Yeah I'm not takin the medication. I was afraid that it could cause some trouble. Right after I went and saw this dr I had read in my local newspaper that he had just resigned. So that definately didnt make me feel comfortable about the meds. He was really my only option cause of where I live cause all the other docs are about 30min to and an hour away. So i decided it was better just to see someone where I go to school at and actually know what to do

  • So it only happens when the ankle is flexed? Sounds like a circulation problem to me. Yes it only happens when the ankle is flexed. Thats kinda what i thought it was but the doctor i went to a week and a half ago had no idea. He had put me on blood pressure medicine but with my blood pressure bein good i didnt take it cause of not being comfortable with takin it. Do you have any idea what they can do for a circulation problem if that is the problem??
