  • It's remotely possible that you may have a genetic issue. Ask your doctor if s/he knows of any genetic syndromes that might be related to your scan. There may be a difference between "prominent" and "enlarged." I found this for you for what it's worth, but as I'mnot a doctor I don't know if it relates to your problems: Posterior fossa lesions associated with neuropsychiatric symptomatology.Pollak L, Klein C, Rabey JM, Schiffer J.Department of Neurology, Assaf Harofeh Medical Center, Tel-Aviv University,Zerifin, Israel. We reviewed 7 cases with posterior fossa structural abnormalities (3 tumors, 2megacisterna magna and 2 Dandy-Walker syndrome) presenting with neuropsychiatric symptomatology. Derangement in the balance of dopamine, serotonin andnoradrenergic networks has been implicated in the pathogenesis of schizophrenia, affective and even personality disorders. Disruption of the cerebellar output to mesial dopaminergic areas, locus coeruleus and raphe nuclei, or deafferentationof the thalamolimbic circuits by a cerebellar lesion may lead to behavioralchanges. Seven patients (pts) (comprising 4 men and 3 women with mean age 22years) were diagnosed as suffering from psychosis (2 pts), major depression (1pt), personality disorders (2 pts) and somatoform disorders (2 pts) (DSM-IVcriteria). Brain CT scan (7 pts) and MRI (4 pts) revealed tumors of the posteriorfossa (2 pts), megacisterna magna (2 pts) and Dandy-Walker variant (2 pts). Inone patient a IVth ventricle tumor was removed in childhood. Best wishes.

  • It just might be that your mental state is a result of your physical health and not the other way around. In my opinion you need to have your thyroid looked into, and you need to get the results of those blood tests and post them on a forum that discusses thyroid problems. Alot of people have problems even with so called normal values. You have alot of the symptoms... Ask for these tests: TSHFree T4Free T3Anti TPOAnti TG Good luck...

  • The cisterna magna is in the cerebellum. Disorders of the cerebellum have been associated with depression. See a neurologist or psychiatrist. Rule out other problems with some blood work. The Dandy-Walker syndrome is associated with hydrocephalus and a MEGA cisterna magna. Yours is not mega.
