Open to all ideas!

39/f. Sudden onset in November, 2006...started seeing trails behind moving objects. By Feb., I developed severe photophobia with eye pain...which invariably led to a killer "brain freeze" headache above my brow. A couple months later, I noticed several dark spots and squiggles in my vision. They've been multiplying to the point they're really distracting in day to day life. By summer, I developed occasional flashes and streaks in my peripheral vision. All of the above mentioned complaints have continued 24/7 to this day. This week, I noticed the air seems electrified, or slightly shimmering...as if my sight is just TOO good. I feel like time is running out for my sight...or my sanity (I think I'm allergic to pain)....which led me to mad-crazed googling...which eventually led me here.

About my medical history....I've been checked by a neurologist, ophtalmologist, neuro-ophtalmologist, and back to a neurologist. All findings are normal including eye exam (20/20), eeg, and mri. Diagnosed with an autoimmune thyroid disease (post-partum thyroiditis and/or Hashimotos depending on which dr you ask) and, what I would describe as a life long "blah...whatever....I'm exhausted and just want to sleep" disorder. The latest neurologist thinks I have a degenerative autoimmune eye disease that effects the retina. And...she's pretty sure I have lyme disease. Another dr. is sure it's lead poisoning and/or lyme. Many new Dr. appts in the next couple of weeks with many more test results.

  • Today, I started seeing silver spots throughout my vision; and at whatever "focal plane" I tried to focus on I saw them completely and sharply focused. I noticed this when I was looking at the sky, when I hadn't been directly looking at the son. The silver spots where almost swimming, but would tend to fall down as if they were pulled by gravity. Also, I saw the spots most clearly when looking at the blue sky, and not when I focused on the surroundings of my backyard. The shimmering silver spots were most prevalent in my central vision, and not in my peripheral visual range.

I didn't think anyone else in the world ever has seen this. But you described to the T, exactly the same thing i've always been able to see laying in my back yard. How wierd but nice to know i'm not alone on this one. I don't know if i can put a color on my shimmers though, cause they aren't exactly silver. They are so tiny, speckles, almost clear, translucent, but i can see them. Don't know what is, always thought of it as energy that nobody else could see but me.

  • I'd keep seeing an opthalmologist but I did see on tv a man who had parasites in his eyeball. He was lucky that at the moment the doctor went to examine him, that it ran across the eye--otherwise, he would have always be undiagnosed.Otherwise, your vitreous is changing, causing thousands of nerves to respond in your brain, along with webs in your line of vision.

In '91 I was diagnosed with Retinitus Pigmatosa, which affects your eye sight & unless they find a cure, ends in blindness. They said, I'd be blind in 5 years. It really only affects by right eye. Since that time I've take 16,000 units of Vit. A, which I believe, had 'held it off'. With all the money that is spent on medical research for any condition, wouldn't think someone would come up with some cures? I'm disappointed to say the least.
