I periodically get a discoloration and a lump in my middle finger. This lump is always located in the same spot, in the inside of the finger between the palm knuckle and the next knuckle (counting from the tip of the finger it would be located between the 2nd and 3rd knuckle). The lump is a little larger than a pencil eraser and can be moved around somewhat. The discoloration is always dark blue.

Does anyone have an idea of what this might be? Would this be something that requires attention or can I just forget about it? Any information would be appreciated.

  • Mitch, That sounds like a problem with the vein. You didn't mention whether or not you have any other health problems nor, your age. Are you taking any medication which could cause the problem? If you are taking something that could thin you blood talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Always make sure you are eating a healthy diet. That sort of thing will often happen with an injury or strain if their is a weakening of the veins in the area. You may need to wear some protection on your hand when you do chores to prevent bumping the finger.

  • Thanks for the reply...appreciate your thoughts. I think your assessment of it being due to a vein or artery is probably correct. The discoloration is bluish in color. I'm in fairly decent health although my blood pressure has crept up over the years (I am 64) and I am using lisinopril and aspirin. I have no idea if that could be causing this kind of problem. There doesn't seem to be any descriptions on the web referring to this kind of condition that I have seen. My thoughts were possibly an aneurysm within the finger, but that seems to not fit the descriptions I've read of that condition either.

  • Mitch! Consult your doctor it's quite good for your health. May be there is any issue with your blood (like thickness), which cause clotting problems. There are many different diseases that relate to your problem.
