Perforated eardrum problem

About 7 weeks ago I had a minor ache with discharge a week later. I had many perforated eardrums as a child (in fact my first hospital visit with an ear problem was when I was only 6 months old) but it's been about 20 years since I've had a problem. However now after 7 weeks there is still constant discharge from the ear and a headache every day. I've visited my GP in this time about half a dozen times and have had a spray, antibiotics for the intial infection which cleared up, and pain killers. Finally last week I got a hospital appointment and the doc cleared it out for a few minutes and said he couldn't be sure there was a perforation, which seemed a little odd (even as I write I am having to wipe my ear yuk) and gave some drops as it was infected again. It's only been four days since that appointment and I have another in a month, but the medicene states it should not be used with a perforated eardrum and there is little sign of the discharge or headaches stopping. :( What can I do?
