My bottom set of wisdom teeth are growing in and a few days ago I noticed that on my left side, the part of the gums in front of the (now) second to last tooth is swollen and soft and slightly painful to the touch. This makes it hard to eat on that side and I feel a constant presence of the raised gum. It is only on teh left side by the one tooth. I have no dental insurance right now and need to know if anyone can tell me if I need to seek emergency care. I have general medical coverage through my college but I don't know if they deal with oral issues. My bottom wisdom teeth are growing in straight and don't seem to be impacted...
Any idea what it might be?

  • Also, my jaw hurts a little on that side and the left side of my neck is tender to pressure and feels a bit swollen and the tenderness/annoyance can be felt as I swallow - almost as if I eaten mass amounts of salt.

  • Sounds like you might have some sort of abcess or infection. Ask one of the social workers at your school if it might be covered if you go in late at night in severe pain since the drs aren't available in the evening. GET IT CHECKED ASAP because infection cause other health issues such as heart problems. Good luck!
