My 15 yr old sun has been having pain under the ribs generally on his right. No other symptoms currently. I don't know it this could be related, but in July he experienced lower back pain and blood in urine which lasted several weeks. No antibiotics were administered as a bacterial culture came back negative. He has has xray and sonograms of chest and abdominals. He also had an upper GI which only showed reflux which hs is on meds for, but no relief from the pain under the ribs. Any suggestions as to where to look next or what other tests should be performed.

  • Have someone check his gall bladder, this is situated under the ribs on the right and can have a numner of symptoms which may be mistaken for other conditions as the gall bladder can apparently contain "sludge" which is a thick substance not yet like a gall stone, the pain can swap from front to back. alternately his mid thoracic region (middle of his back), the area of t7-8 can refers anteriorly (to the front of the ribs) if there is a problem and it affects the nerve root path of that area, which innervates the gallbladder and diaphram. good luck
