Pain in the Butt

I am a 39 year old male and in relatively good shape (height and weight proportionate) and eat pretty healthy.

I recently was diagnosed with hemmorroids (which were thought to be internal) but have not totally gotten rid of my symptoms. It's been about 4-1/2 weeks and I still have symptoms such as itching / burning sensations as well as a constant dull pain. All of these symptoms are much less than they were in the first couple of weeks but not totally gone yet. I did have some blood present around the third week (my second visit to the doctor) but it was only found when I cleaned the area..not in the stool. I have yet to see any more blood since. When I use the bathroom it doesn't hurt but afterwards the dull pain intensifies for a while. I also feel as though my rectum has a constant "pressure" feeling as if it were weighted.
Is it normal to have these symptoms this long? Should I go in for a Colonoscopy even though I have no cancer history and don't fit the profile? Could I have something else?

  • Usually with hemorroids, i dont think there is a cure, just preventative measures- like eatting your 5 fruits and veg, drinking 3 ltrs of water per day....at least thats what i was told!:confused:Are u using any hemorroid cream to stop the itching? :)I have hemorroids on and off, since i had my first child and bleeding is normal(unless in stool!) it's to do with swollen, burst blood vessals!

  • You do fit the profile with your symptoms. How is it your doctor only "thought" them to be internal? What tests did they do to diagnose you? Below is a link to more info from the specialists. Also you might check the same site under anal and also rectal cancer. Many people (and doctors) mistake these cancers for other things, and wait too long to get it thoroughly checked. http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/colon-cancer/DS00035/DSECTION=5
