I'm new to this website. Hopefully someone can give me some insight to my problem. The pain started in my left foot and thought it to be a neuroma. I have some swelling when on my feet for an hour or so. Within a month or so, the pain soared up my leg to my left buttocks. I now have much pain in my entire leg from my buttocks to my foot. It's getting difficult to walk. When I wake up in the morning, getting out of bed and walking is almost impossible. My right leg and foot are similar in pain but not as bad. I have great trouble getting in and out of my car and my bed or couch. I don't know what to do. Do I see my family physician or a neurologist, or another specialist? Help!!! Thanks.

  • Are you Diabetic? Also what about kidney functon. It sounds like you may have the gout. Do your feet feel like they are stinging, especially around your big toe? This is very common in kidney patients with low kidney function. Talk to your nephrologist right away. There are no home remedies for this problem.

  • The pain ends where my toes meet my foot (both feet). I don't feel any stinging sensation, but it can be extremely difficult to put pressure on my feet (especially when on my feet for a length of time, e.g., house cleaning). At times, my legs feel very stiff, especially in the center of both buttocks. What is gout and, besides seeing a doctor, what can I do about it? I don't believe I have diabetes as I had my blood checked in few months ago. Thanks for responding. I appreciate your concern.

  • I say just go see your family practice doc. He/she will direct you from there. What are you waiting for!? This has got to be miserable!

Gout is a form of arthritis caused from a build-up of uric acid in the body. Normally uric acid is dissolved in the blood and is run through your kidneys and will exit your body in your urine. Symptoms of gout usually begin with the big toe and the joint may become red, warm and/or swollen. However, a gout attack usually only affects one joint, and from reading your post above, it seems as though you have several joints that are causing you pain. People who drink excess alcohol, are overweight, or eat foods high in a substance called purines(foods like liver, dried beans and peas, anchovies) can develop a build-up of uric acid. Well thats what gout is..but your best bet is to check with you family doctor. Good luck and hope you feel better soon :)

  • Thank you everyone. It's nice to know that there are people out there, I don't even know, who care about me. I will see my family doctor then go from there. I don't drink, nor am I excessively overweight - at least I can say that. I am, however, looking into possibly MS. My symptoms seem to fit. Keep the comments coming. I appreciate you all. :)
