So almost two years ago I went to the orthopedic because of knee pain while running xc for school. I was diagnosed with hamstring tendinitis but nothing helped and the pain got worse. So I kept going back and we could not find what was wrong i did Pt for a month with pain patches nothing helped MRI showed nothing other than a little wear and tear on my joint (I am very rough on my knees so) then he dis a cortisone injection and that did not help. I got a second opinion because doctor wanted too. Then a year later he did arthroscopic surgery and found that my plicca was swollen around my hamstring tendon and under my knee cap. So he removed it and after i did PT and was feeling better. Then slowly pain started coming back but not the same pain more like joint pain to muscle pain. So when after I walk or try to run or am just up and about my knee hurts and usually it's constants. Any answer

  • I was very sorry to read of your knee problem, issues like the one you describe for young people can come about from biomechanical issues because of motor dysfunction. For example tight ITBs. Do you have a physiotherapist to work with? or someone who can check the action of the joint/whole body in motion. (some podiatrists/ chiropractor-kinesiologist are also able to help) if you have not done so please consider:physio, podiatrist, chiro-kinesiologist;a complete stretching programme;compression garments;change of exercise routine ie. running to swimming. Also have a look at the resources I have on my website www.goodpainbadpain.com best of luck, please let me know if any of this helped.

  • Everything I read on your site was great. Thanks for that. More on the problem is I havent ran since before surgrey. I kicked swimming up a lot after surgery more than before. But then I was have some pain while I was working with my coach so I cut down the swimming a lot. Sleep is ok not grat it just depends on how much pain I am in. I do not have any one working with me right know. I was realized from Pt after surgery a month later and from the orthro. A week after the Pt did. I am thinking about going back to my ortho to see if something else is wrong or what. Thanks for th reply and advice

  • Ok have read that swimming ie. low impact causes pain, and you have already said what the orthopod did not find, please consider seeing a sports physio, take care :-)ianb
