ok on january first 2008 i was just doing basic housework when i started having mild chest pain, i brushed it off as thinking it may be anxiety until i lost feeling in my arm as well as tingling i got concerned at first but then i figured id be fine because it was on my right side i was frantic and stuck my arm in the freezer trying to draw feeling back it didnt do anything so i tried using heat from the stove still nothing this persisted for about 2 hours then slowly went away. for about 2 weeks after i had chest pain in the center of my chest and shooting pains extending into my right arm over and over all lasting aprox 45 min it seemed nothing triggered it and nothing eased it. my symptoms are: cold hands and feet- not likely reynauds this is always this way for me, numbness and tingleing in right arm- not often, tight chest, difficulties breathing-inhaler doesnt help but doc wanted to try it out, sharp stabbing pain slightly to the right in the center of my chest this can graduate to a dull aching pain generally lasts 45min-2hours, a doctor told me my cartilidge was swollen in between my ribs, the breath shortage makes it difficult to talk at times and cough alot also has been flemmy at times the cough is more worse in the evening and the morning seems to have no trigger and nothing eases this symptom, my hands also tend to swell up everyday so badly i cant wear my ring but during the most part of the day the ring nearly falls off it hurts so badly i cant use my fingers well at all. to top all of this off i had kawasaki disese as a child and wonder if that has anything to do with this? i am only 25 years old i have 3 kids to look after and im not getting any answers im also stuck missing work due to this and dont know what to do! does anyone know what kind of tests i should be asking the specialist to perform? i want to get this dealt with! so far i am going for a heart ultrasound and a chest x-ray on april 8th if anyone knows of other imperitive tests that might hellp with this diagnosis please tell me and i will do it!

  • FOr the chest pain: Here is something I have heard of with a few friends: It may be that what you're describing is Costochondritis (Tietze's syndrome). It's an inflammation of the cartilage that connects the inner end of each rib with the breastbone (sternum). When they rub together, the pain can be very uncomfortable. SOme people even go to the E.R. thinking they were having a heart episode and it turned out to be Costochondritis. The pain associated with Costochondritis is exacerbated by sore/tender breasts (a condition very common in women of almost any age ) AND the flare-up of Costo can cause more breast pain....not sure if this is it, but may be worth asking your doctor about..... About Kawasaki disease: Also you may want to be tested for autoimmune diseases ....is Kawasaki a autoimmune disease....? If it is, it would not be strange for you to have developed another autoimmune disease...I have a thryoid problem (Graves Disease and an autoimmune disease) and it is very common in women with some of the symtpoms you mentioned...you may want to get blood work for FT4, FT3 TSH and the autoimmune disease of the thryoid Hashimotos and perhaps Graves....not all your symtpoms fit here, but some do...my guess is perhaps more than just one thing going on.....Joan

  • I think I would just want to rule out any heart problem. I don't like the hands swelling, shortness of breath and cough. What does your doctor say? Why is he making you wait until April 8 for a chest xray? I would have that done now. You may have an enlarged heart or a lung problem which will show up on xray. You should also have an ECG. What tests or medications has your doctor put you through or on?
