 About 3 weeks ago, I noticed some brown spots on my lower right abdomen, and hip, and one spot on the inside of my right knee. Having just returned from a vacation to Mexico, where I had been surfing, I thought they were maybe just some slight bruises, or surf board rashes... that's what they look like. They still haven't gone away, and it's been almost 3 weeks. There is no pain as might be suspected with bruising either. The ones on my lower abdomen and hip are just brown patches... They don't have any different texture than regular skin, they are just slight discoloration. The one on my inner knee is slightly dry feeling, and a little more reddish, though this may just be from me messing with it. It is almost perfectly round, and looks a little different, but they all showed up within a day at the same time, right after the surf trip.

Any ideas on what this might be? THANKS

  • Did you come into contact with any lime juice prior to going out in the sun? It has a peculiar effect when left on the skin during sun exposure.I thought I had sun poisoning one time...made limeade while at the house boat, then went outside and sunbathed. The skin on the backs of my hands turned just like you described in spotty patches, and also a place above my lip where I had taken a drink of the mixture while sunbathing. It took a little while for it to go away...scary...but I hope that this could answer your question and that when you do find out what the cause is, it would be nothing serious.

  • The Lime Juice IS a possibility...... I had limes to squeeze into beers alot of times throughout the trip. How long did the discoloration take to go away with yours? It has been about 3 weeks since returning from the trip for me...Thanks :)

  • I have the exact same discoloration on my hands, arms and back. I went to the dermatologist today and she said it was because of the limes I was drinking with my coronas (I was in Mexico as well). She said it may take 3-6 months for the spots to go away. From now on, I am drinking my coronas with no lime!
