I am really struggling with this- its taken over my life, in the past 2.5 years I've stopped seeing my friends, become a recluse and become strapped to the gym in some effort to control whats going on with my body.
I am 28, I was 25 when this all began. First the weight gain, I have since stopped looking at the scales but I used to be a dress size UK 6, now I am a dress size UK12-14.
Along with that, I got a swelling in my stomach, to the point where the doctor was conviced I was pregnant and sent me for an ultra scan. It was clear. This was 2.5 years ago, (I've not slept with anyone since so cannot be pregnant).
My bowels also begun to deterioate, what was lose stools once a day is now explosive and large amounts of diarrea once to twice a day (sorry for the graphic detail, I have become used to it).
I also get heavy night sweats most nights, as in have to take off clothes and when I get up in the morining they are able to be squeezed then water comes out!
I went to my doctors, infact several times....
GP1: Said she thought I was expecting, did a scan showed negative, suggested I take charcole tablets which I did, to no effect.
GP2: Said it would go away in time, said it was something all women go through. Now I know for a start that not all women look 6-8 months pregnant (stomach is 38-40 inches when it should be 28-30 inches for my dress size). It has not gone away in the 2.5 years, I conclude she is wrong.
GP3: Said it was IBS which I did believe for a while. I took the pills (buscopan) which didn't do anything, tried 2 months of peppermint tea with every meal, no effect, tried relaxation and yoga for a year, no effect, tried gentle exercise- did help to get rid of gas, but way too embarassing in a group of people. I even read up on it. Thats when I decided it was not IBS. I do not ever get constipated, I do not ever have mucas in my stools, I never have any cramping or pains and its not made worse or better by stress.
GP4: said it could be a bacterial inbalance. Suggested the little bacteria drinks. I did for 2 weeks, I then ended up in a&e with sevear cramps. They did blood tests which showed up negative aside from the bacteria, I stopped the drinks, the pain went away within days.
My weights still going up- all be it a bit slower then when it first started. I have though become tied to the gym. I hate exercising, but I hate feeling so large- not that size 12 is large, but you have to realise, I used to be a size 6 little over 2 years ago, this weight gain has been so rapid its scary and demorolising. I now do cardio 5 to 6 days a week, 10 hours in total (thats in the gym with a stopwatch on, not including stretching, warming up/cooling down or queueing for a machine when the stopwatch is turned off.) I spoke to a personal trainer who said that my stomach is not fat, that the could not pinch it- and its in his interest to tell me that I am fat/need to lose weight, and that its some sort of an inflammation or similar.
I have just seen a different doctor, he is away for the next week but the blood tests did come back- (looked for liver function, thyroid, glucose, FBC, LGA, H-polori, celiac and liver function) they are all normal aside from the ESR which we are waiting on. I have also been asked to do a faecis test which I am also waiting the results of.
Is there anything this could be? is there anything these symptoms match? more importantly is there anything I can do/take/say to the doctor to make it all go away?
Could it be lactose intollerance? I don't eat/drink much dairy at all, skimmed milk in 1 cup of tea a day, some quron, but I don't know how these things work.
Could it be Candida? I don't eat much sugar: infact aside from apples and melons (no added sugar!) I am a health freak when it comes to sugar and don't eat any at all- fruit is good enough for me! I also don't eat wheat, pasta, rice, potatos, bread. Aside from a 30gram sachet of porrige in the morning, I don't eat carbs I am too afraid they will make things worse. I also don't drink alcohol
I do drink enough, 2 liters is a mimimum a day as I exercise so hard HRM reads my heart rate is between 65 to 100 of its max when I work out with a 75% average and I do alot of interval training in air conditioned gyms which makes me thirsty).
Any help is very much appreciated, no one seems to have any answers at all!
