Hi,

I was wondering if anybody has heard of anything like this or maybe has some of the same symptoms.

I have frequent episodes that last about 3 weeks and go away.
My face will go completely numb on the left side for a couple weeks and at that time it sounds like I'm drunk because I slur so much. Somtimes my face doesn't go numb but im so dizzy-also with speech problems. My most recent episode my arm and hand would not move my arm was just limp for about a month and a half and my speech was terrible. Each episode gets substantially worse. Ive had 2 CT scans and so many blood tests and everything comes back normal. Any ideas?

  • Are you male or female? If female,do you take BC pills? What other meds do you take? How do these episodes affect you?e.g.,do they drive you crazy or do you just calmly wait until they pass?Do you regain complete recovery?ARe you alert while they're going on?

  • Thanks for replying I am a 22 year old female. I am not on BC and havent been for about 2 years. When the episodes happen I try to remain calm. The thing I am thankful for is I am not working at the moment so that makes it a little easier. On the other hand I tend to panic when my arm/hands arent working properly-I have a 6 month old baby and it makes caring for her very difficult. While Im having an episode I also feel very frusterated when I cant speak normally and I just dont feel well (I get very dizzy standing up to quickly, little things like that). I am alert while they are happening. After each epsiode a little bit of each symptom will stay. For example-my face went numb. A couple of weeks later it started to get better but my chin was still numb. About a month and a half later I woke up and my face was even more numb than the time before. When that started to go away my chin wasn't numb but the top of my head was. Recently my arm stopped working and the top of my head wasnt numb anymore. With each new episode its like it erases the lasting symptoms and starts new ones. Now my hand still isnt working properly-but on my next episode will my hand completely heal? thats what im thinking. Thanks again for your reply

  • Hi quietstorm.. I will let you know what happens when I see the neurologist. I am so glad that other people know what Im talking about! now that you say you have vision problems with your episodes-I've had that too--it seems to effect the eye on the side of my body with the symptoms. Does anyone in your family have MS??I ask because my mom does, and my little brother has juvenile arthritis...I wonder if that could effect anything?? 2 auto-immune conditions in my family? Another thing thats kind of weird is I havent gotten my period in months.I had my baby in june, I got 2 periods in October and I havent gotten one since?? I am also not breastfeeding and havent been for 4 months. I also noticed that the back of my neck keeps tingling. It feels like the tag on my shirt is rubbing my neck. When I checked there was no tag....It happens while I vacuum, do the dishes..

  • Thanks for that Blaze. I do use a cordless phone. I tend to hold it to the left ear since I've had to become left handed. I never thought of this as a possibility. Maybe I will buy a new phone.

  • Hi just checking back in, havent been online in a few days....ok just to give you a little info not to disappoint you though. Ive been to 5 neurologists, a ent doctor, my family dr. 4 emergency rooms.hoping that maybe theres a doc out there. that maybe has heard of this.i have had mri's, ct scans a doppler to check my carotids..........the one thing that i wanted to tell you about ,to skip all of the other bs. ask your doctor to do an eeg right off the bat.mine came up abnormal, but they are not seizures......my neuro has had me on a seizure meds since june (lamictal) with no help. also, have them check your vitamin b 12 levels..mine came back low as well......trust me im not stopping on this until i figure this out or..it stops me first. this is a terrible thing to go through.. one thing that i dont know if i mentioned it to you was that my face tingles constantly ( well cant tell when im sleeping) and when the tingling escalates is when i get the slurred speech, loss of vision and my body puts me to sleep after awakening im ok, with the face back to tingling

B12 deficiency can cause neuro symptoms and many others. i second your suggestion to the other to have an EEG. One thou has to be careful if "non specific" abnormalities are found thou on it as ive found that they often dismiss these as "possible drug reactions" even if one isnt on any drugs!! (that happened to me.. both my EEGs were abnormal but dont show anything like epilepsy. i didnt even find out they were abnormal till i got a copy of my results. It was only then i found out the abnormal results were dismissed due to being put down to drug side effects. With my own research, I finally found out that the abnormalities which were found..are actually related to the illness I do have)

  • I saw a neurologist for the first time today. He was very short with me and very impersonal. He did a neurological exam and he said I am fine---of course I see him when im not having an epsiode. Anyway he said I am having aura migraines. I dont think I have ever had a migraine but apparently you can have a migraine without feeling it. I have read some about it and it would explain all of my symptoms. I just dont feel satisfied with that answer...

  • I have a similar condition. For the past month, off and on, my feet go numb and tingly. My right hand seems impaired, and I'm having difficulty writing. My speech is affected. I feel almost paralyzed, like I cant get out what I want to say fast enough, as if my mouth is disconnected from my brain. I'm slurring my words a little, and it's hard to pronounce my normal vocabulary. This happened to me a couple years ago, but my hands and feet went numb and tingly. Also, my speech ability was impaired. It lasted about two months. I went to a chiropractor because someone said it was a pinched nerve. One day I just woke up and it was gone. Now it's returned, and I feel it's related. Something is abnormal, and I feel slow! Hi, I was wondering if anybody has heard of anything like this or maybe has some of the same symptoms. I have frequent episodes that last about 3 weeks and go away.My face will go completely numb on the left side for a couple weeks and at that time it sounds like I'm drunk because I slur so much. Went to a neurologist, all is well, hmm? Anyway, some believe it is the beginning of Multiple Sclerosis, which has no cure, so they say, as you know. All this has made me do research; the B vitamins may well be the culprits… I ask you, how is your diet? Some believe it is the Western diet causing all this, in other words, the processed stuff…Peace.
