Diabetic for 36 years. 2 small strokes 3 years ago with no bad effects to talk of except numbness in toes, right side of foot, upper thigh above knee. Now I have a tightness above the knee with no pain though. Cholesterol about 200 and doctor wants me to take meds for it but too expensive through Kaiser. Take insulin and an aspirin for blood thinner. Any thoughts on this new tightness above knee where numbness has been since stroke ? Doctor says after all of this time my numbness will not go away.

If it were me... I'd be hunting out a naturopathic doctor. This is the one we see in IL. www.drjuliasinn.net She has experience with diabetes. Naturopathic doctors tend to search for the cause of issues not just treat symptoms with drugs. They also tend to encourage their patients to use natural supplements. You could research herbs at www.pubmed.com which is the National Library of Medicine to see which ones are anti-diabetic. Check on gymneva sylvestre and also chromium picolinate. The right form of cinnamon can help level off blood sugar. Eat more often and eat more veggies. There is a mushroom that has been shown to help regrow the myelin sheath around nerves. It's called Lion's Mane. You can buy capsules. Be your own medical advocate.... research for yourself online. You'll find some solutions I think. Also perhaps buy a used mini trampoline and do some rebounding... even if you can't stand on it many people have been helped by just bouncing their feet while sitting next to it. It helps with circulation. God bless you! Ali :)
