I am bruisng very easily for no apparent reason. I have two bruised, one on my upper leg and one on my arm. Also I feel like I bumped my head, but I don't remember hitting my head or bruising myself in any way. Also I feel very tired and streesed out from work and school. I have also been gaining a lot of weight lately.

Do you know what it might be?

  • Tired and stressed....could be thryoid problem. Common among women not as much among men but not unhead of. Look up thryoid problems at Mary Shomon's thryoid site...great info and list of symptoms for hypothryoid and hyperthyroid....easy to test with simple blood work of FT4, FT3, TSH and the antibodies of Hashimotos disease and Graves Disease....make sure doc tests ALL I mentioned...often they just test TSH and they will try to convince you this is enough, but for through testing you need all. TSH over 2.5 or 3.0 may need thryoid supplement. Bruising...may be related to thryoid, but are you getting your vitamin C and B12 (especially if you are a women)? Any other symptoms? Hair loss, bloated, dry skin, digestive problems, feel lump in the throat...fuzzy headed?

Bruising could be from a copper or vitamin c deficiency. Stress shows up when magnesium, b-complex (esp. vitamin b5) and vitamin C are depleted. Weight gain and fatigue would again be a sign of nutrient problems.

  • I have to agree with Lineup, although you should be making sure to watch your symptoms closely. Did your diet change because of stress? (I'm guessing it did since you said you were gaining weight). Sudden changes to diet can cause... well a lot of things, but it can alter your platelet count / size which I guess would contribute to bruising easily. (It happened to my aunt, she started to eat better and take calcium supplements and everything got back to normal). I gotta say I don't like the idea of taking tons of vitamins and supplements, but my aunt was 65 at the time so i guess it couldn't hurt if only to help prevent bone loss.A tired / stressed body can, in some cases, lead you to crave refined sugars and junk food, which unfortunately only makes you more tired.Of course, if you haven't changed your diet/exercise habits one bit and you're starting to gain weight... well 1) that sucks big time 2) get your thyroid checked.Good luck.
